Will Cox Obituary

COX, Will Will Earle Cox, 70, of 628 South Main Street, Greenville, SC, died suddenly Friday, August 22, 2008 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Cox was born in Simpsonville, SC on October 15, 1937, son of the late John Cagle Cox and Lillian Verdin Cox. He was a graduate of Slater High School and attended Clemson University for two years. He retired from his position as President of Clark and Company General Contractors in 1994, but continued to flourish through many charitable and creative pursuits, accompanied by his beloved wife, Peggy. Given the name Pop by his grandchildren, he was loving, generous, warm and funny. As a son, brother, husband, father, and friend, Pop was matchless. Most who knew him will remember him for all these things, but perhaps all who knew him will remember him as a true Renaissance man. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Peggy Scarce Cox; his four children, Melody Cox Gray (Logan) of Fayetteville, GA, Merry Lynn Cox of Greenville, Will Earle Cox, Jr. (Donna) of Pooler, GA, and John Verdin Cox (Brenda) of Greenville; his sister, Jane Cox Dyer (Gerald) of Marietta; and his six grandchildren, Richard Owens (who is serving in the US Military in Iraq), Christy Owens, Michael Cox, Maggie Cox, Lisa Cox and Gracie Cox. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Christ Episcopal Church, 10 North Church Street, Greenville, SC, with the Reverend Sally Parrott, Reverend Ted Duvall, and Reverend Harrison McLeod officiating. Burial in the Christ Church Cemetery and reception will follow. No flowers please. Memoials may be made to Project Host Soup Kitchen, 526 S. Academy Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or Soteria Ministry, 80 Byrdland Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. THOMAS MCAFEE FUNERAL HOME, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.
