FUNERAL HOME

Wendell Benton Obituary

Wendell F. Benton RUFFIN, SC - Mr. Wendell F. Benton, a friend to all, known as "Wendy", age 65, entered into rest following a long and courageously fought battle for his life Sunday evening, November 30, 2014, while surrounded by his loving family at his home in the Sniders Community of Ruffin, under the care of Hospice of Charleston. Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, December 3, 2014, from Shiloh Baptist Church, 10565 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin. Interment will follow in the churchyard. Born January 9, 1949 at the old home place in Sniders, he was a son of Mrs. Edna Nettles Benton and the late Mr. Clifton F. Benton. Known famously throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina as the "Peanut Man", he was the owner of Benton's Peanut Farm at Sniders Crossroads. Wendy was well-known for his strong work ethic and diligence with his responsibilities. Prior to beginning his own business, he was a supervisor with Piggly Wiggly Construction. An avid outdoorsman, his favorite pastime in life was hunting large game, American Whitetail Deer and fishing the local fresh water creeks of Colleton County. Following the death of his father, he became the President of Little Salkehatchie Hunting Club and has remained in that same capacity for the past twenty-eight years. He was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Wendy will always be remembered as a friend to all and as a family man who was always deeply committed to his family, always providing the best that any father could. Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Debbie Ginn Benton; his mother of Ruffin; his children, Trenton Wade Benton and his wife Beth Kubik Benton of Walterboro, Opal Michelle Benton of Islandton, Wendy Brooke Benton Goodwin of Walterboro, Alexis Kristen Jones and her husband Reggie Searson of Islandton, and Robert Trenton Jones and his wife Monica Jones Jones of Islandton; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Betty Carson Ginn of Walterboro. There are nine grandchildren, Caleb Jones, Cody Goodwin, Breanna "Breezie" Jones, Jadah Searson, Cairah Searson, Cameron Jones, Justin Searson, Banks Benton, and Heartlee River Peters as well as a nephew, Kevin Benton and a niece, Stacey Turner that also survive. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock this Tuesday evening at THE BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, WALTERBORO CHAPEL, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro; 843.538.5408. Visit the registry online at: www.briceherndonfuneralhome.com. You will be greatly missed Mr Wendy. I loved coming to the farm and Brooke and riding four wheelers and hanging out with you. You were a great second Dad to me. RIP Mr Wendy
