Wayne Smith Obituary

Wayne Smith Columbia, SC - Robert Wayne Smith, 78, died peacefully at home in Columbia Tuesday morning, June 21, 2022. Mr. Smith was born December 8, 1943 in Williamsburg County, a son of the late William Davis Smith and Lottie Evans Smith. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School, attended the University of South Carolina, and graduated from Georgia Southern University. Wayne was a schoolteacher, having taught Art, English Literature, and Special Education in Andrews, Summerville, Columbia, Blythewood, and Saluda over his career. Wayne had many interests and was a member of several organizations: The Sons of the American Revolution, The South Carolina Society, The Sons of Confederate Veterans, The SC Teachers Association, and Earlewood Community Association. Wayne was a member of Bloomingvale Baptist Church and was an associate member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Surviving Mr. Smith are: nieces, Cyndi (Billy) Walker of Ora, SC, Robin (Gary) White of Andrews, SC, and Dana (Scott) West of Fleming Island, FL; nephews, Herbert (Gina) Smith, Jr. of Saluda, SC, Byron (Kelly) Crytzer of N. Augusta, SC, and Roy (Rebecca) Smith of James Island, SC; and several great and great-great- nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Leola (Lloyd) Crytzer and Annie Laurie (Gordon) Chalfant and 3 brothers, William Davis Smith, Jr., Davis DuRant (Mildred) Smith, and Herbert (Shirley) Smith. Funeral services will be 2 PM Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Bloomingvale Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Wayne's family will greet friends 6 to 8 PM Saturday at Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree.
