Wayne Fanning Obituary

Dixie,
You are in my thoughts and prayers during this time. I wish comfort and the ability to draw on memories in the days ahead.

I am so saddened to learn of Wayne's death. I wish I could be there for the service to tell you a story--I am sure one of many!-- of an experience Wayne and I had in our work that made me forever cherish him. It confirmed for me that protecting the environment and the people in it were in good hands with Wayne in charge of his EQC district. I know that the love he displayed in his work and his life will sustain you through this hard time. God bless you, and thank God for Wayne.

So sad to hear of Wayne's passing. We met in the early 80s through my insurance practice.
He was a good man. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

As a former classmate (class of 1970) of Wayne & Buist at the College of Charleston I was saddened to hear of Wayne's passing. I pray God's peace and the joy of great memories for his family.

Dixie, I'm so sorry to hear about Wayne. As a young engineer at DHEC, I could always count on Wayne for good advise. Always thoughtful, respectfully, and always had you smiling with his humor. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

I worked briefly in the Charleston EQC office in late 1973 to early 1974, and got to know Wayne. He truly was one of the good guys. The world is a poorer place without him.

Dixie, My husband, Dick Sharpe, and I are both saddened to learn of Wayne's death. Dick worked at DHEC in Hazardous Waste and Air and I was in Water; we were in the Central Office. We both enjoyed our work association with Wayne. I admired him for his even temperament and his knowledge. It was always a pleasure to work with him. I am sure you will miss him. Please accept our sympathy.

We were sorry to learn of Wayne's passing. Nannette and I send our condolences and prayers for comfort, to you and your family. We enjoyed meeting him many years ago during our visit to your area.

Our brother, Wayne, kept us in stitches telling bedtime stories when we were children. We would be laughing so hard our father would have to come upstairs to tell us to be quiet and go to sleep.

So sorry to hear. I knew Wayne well when I worked for SCDHEC in the 1980's. I was thrust unexpectedly into the Beaufort DD position with only 1 years experience. Wayne was a reasoned voice on the most contentious issues and I used Wayne's wise counsel frequently as I tried to navigate issues I didn't completely understand. I believe Wayne was the first non-engineer to be a District Director and it was a good move for the agency when Wayne was appointed DD. I only saw Wayne a couple of times since the 80's but my respect and affection for this fine man never dimmed. I hope Dixie and his family can draw strength and peace from Wayne's well-lived life.

Wayne was a great supporter of the water environment. He and Dixie were and are wonderful people.
