Warren Moore Obituary

Warren E. Moore, 82, of Danville, Iowa, died Sunday (July 27, 2008) at his home. Elliott Chapel in New London was in charge of arrangements.
Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in West Burlington.
Warren was born on Aug. 8, 1925, at Burlington, Iowa, to William S. Moore and Ruth (Fisher) Moore. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1943. Warren was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged.
Warren's education included a BA and MA from the University of Iowa. His first and only teaching job was at Harding Elementary (fifth grade) in Mason City from 1950 to 1988.
Mr. Moore served as Mason City Education Association president, Harding PTO president, ACE Credit Union board member and had lifetime memberships in the ISEA and NEA.
His interests included painting, reading, collecting fossils, Iowa history, bingo and many Canadian and Minnesota fishing trips.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Survivors are cousins and those whose lives he touched at Harding School.
Colleagues recall how his educational background enriched us, how his charactor encouraged us to delve and discuss, and how his humor enlightened our days at "work." We hope we passed that joy to our students.
Thank you, Mr. Moore.

Mr. Moore was the first teacher I had when we moved to Mason City so long ago. He was a wonderful teacher and I enjoyed him very much. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Moore's family. I had him for 5th grade and he was a wonderful teacher. I remember one time in his class, a girl who talked too much and always had to sit in the back of the desk row, snuck in a bag of sundflower seeds in her pocket, she bent over to pick up a pencil that had fallen and all of her sunflower seeds fell out of her pocket onto the floor. Mr. Moore, kept talking, stood up and walked calmly to the back desk where she sat, grabed the backrest of her desk and pulled her desk, with her still in it, to the back of his room and around the corner. He never stopped talking and didn't miss a beat. It was soooo funny!! Just a memory I wanted to share.

I remember Mr. Moore very fondly. He was a very good teacher- one of my favorites! It's been a long time since I was in 5th grade, but I believe I took a lot with me out of his class.
