Warren Bennett Obituary

Warren Joseph Bennett, Jr. Charleston - Warren Joseph "Joe" Bennett, Jr. entered eternal rest on Friday, December 6, 2019. The family will receive friends between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2019, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in the James A. McAlister Chapel at 1:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2019. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.Online condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. Joe was born in Charleston, SC on September 15, 1943 to the late Warren J. "Red" Bennett, Sr. and Virginia Roye Bennett. He graduated from Bishop England High School and the Baptist College of Charleston. Joe worked as a food broker until joining his father in the family business, Charleston Frame & Wheel Service. He eventually took over upon his Father's death in 1985 and retired in 2006. Joe was an avid golfer and after retirement spent his days at Shadowmoss Golf Club where he forged many friendships, including the "Wild Bunch". Joe Bennett lived his life with integrity and therefore was a stickler for playing golf by PGA rules. He even attended several PGA Rules Seminars to keep current. When you played golf with Joe, you knew you had to play by "Joe Bennett Rules". He started the annual Shadowmoss Super Bowl tournament nearly 15 years ago and was also involved in "Marking the Course" for Club tournaments. In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Brown (Jimmy) and a son, Warren J. "Tres" Bennett, III (Shannon Meteraud); three grandchildren, Ian Brown, Braylee Bennett and Chesney Bennett; a sister, Brenda Rosenthal; brothers: L. Russell Bennett (Anne) and Michael R. Bennett (Amy) as well as several nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. Joe was predeceased by his father and a granddaughter, Georgia Rae Bennett. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Joe, memorials may be made to the "First Tee of Greater Charleston" 321 Wingo Way, Suite 201, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER, Inc. Joe was an enjoyable and gracious character to know and his love of golf and enthusiastic embrace of the rules were memorable traits. He welcomed me to Shadowmoss in June 1992 and even though I left the club in July 1993, he called me when he came to Atlanta for a rules seminar. I am sorry for the Bennett's family loss and Joe will definitely be missed by all who knew him. He was a memorable, friendly man with a great sense of humor. Rest in peace, Joe.

The Bennett Family has many great men in their family, Joe was definitely one of those men . He was one of those special people who could always make you smile no matter what kind of mood you were in . If you knew Joe, you knew he LOVED golf. I would call him an ambassador of the game and of Shadowmoss .Joe youre going to be missed by everyone . I ask that maybe one day when I look up in the sky and ask you for a little friendly bounce on the Golf course you help me out.

THANKS JOE -( Juuko)

To the Benett family,
I'm so heartbroken to hear about Joe and now his mom. Such a tragedy for all of you and everyone who ever knew them. Joe is probably playing a round of golf with my brother, Greg, in heaven now and Virginia is cooking them supper. They will both be in our hearts forever.

Friday's will never be the same for me. For over 10 years, Doug and I have been in a standing foursome with Joe every Friday in the Sandbaggers. . A few years with Moe being the fourth and the last several with Marty Carsner. Joe was a class act on and off the course. He never got upset if he was having a bad day and never boasted about a winning day. I will dearly miss Joe and will cherish our memories. Margaritas on us today Joe!

Mrs. Bennett and family,

I have so many memories of Joe. I first met Joe when I was 17 and dating my future husband, Greg Smith. They were going to the Baptist College and working at the late Reynolds Men's Store. They had many wonderful times on the Shadowmoss Golf Course. I know that he and Greg are playing a round of golf in heaven right now. After all, it is Friday, Wild Bunch Day.Keep all your great memories close to your heart. That is what will help get you through these hard times. His memory will forever remain in my heart.

Mrs. Bennett and Bennett family,

There are no words to express my feelings about Joe's death. I met Joe when I was 17 and he was going to the Baptist College with my then boyfriend, Greg Smith. Joe has been apart of my life for many, many years. He and my husband spent a lot of time on the Shadowmoss golf course. They enjoyed it so much. I know that Joe is in heaven now playing a round of golf with Greg. After all it is Friday, Wild Bunch Day. God bless all of you and think of all the wonderful memories you have. That is what helps get you through these troubled times.
