Walter Stone Obituary
Walter Morris Stone, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, in Summerville, South Carolina, at the age of 87. Born on February 4, 1938, in Seneca, South Carolina, Walter was the son of the late Walter M. Stone, Sr. and Nora Stone. He was a proud American who devoted 21 years of his life to the United States Navy, serving his country with honor, dedication, and patriotism. Walter was married to the love of his life, Barbara Stone, for 65 wonderful years. Their bond was a testament to love and commitment. Together, they built a life full of laughter, family, and cherished traditions. A man of many passions, Walter found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, NASCAR, golfing, and could often be found working in his yard, tending to his garden with pride. Known for his warm, outgoing personality, Walter never met a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, and he left a lasting impression wherever he went. He was an excellent cook, Walter was especially known for his annual fish frys, a tradition that brought together family, friends, and neighbors. His cooking was more than a skill, it was a way he showed love, brought people together, and created lasting memories. Walter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and generosity. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing in his remarkable life. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Stone; his children: Robert Stone and Karen Pace (Gordon); his grandchildren: Torre Drake (Steven), Kendall Daybell (Michael), and Zachary Pace.; his great grandchild, Teagan Drake; as well as his brother, Verlon Stone. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Grady Stone, Johnny Stone, Angris Stone, Ellen Bowen, Sara Gordon, Veda Grant, Louis Richburg, Earnest Stone, and Willamae Frampton; as well as his daughter in law, Sherry Stone. A visitation of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, from 10:30am to 11:30am at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:30am in the Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens.
