Mr. Herbert will be missed by a lot of James Islanders. He was a great person and always had time for the children wanting to play tennis and he was a good member of our Epworth Church. It was good to See Miss Mary and him get married in our church. But now you can be soaring again but this time with the angels and not having to worry about any crash landings. You will be missed by all. And my wishes go out to Miss Mary and Mr Herberts family but remember he is soaring now.

I first met Walt during 1975. After retiring from USAF 1974. I joined VFW Post #445 1975 which at that time we held our monthly meeting and Friday night Bingo in a house on Folly Road owned by American Legion Post #147. I was living in Ladson, SC and I did Post #445 bingo duty on Friday nights, I would stop at the 'Limehouse Gas Station" on Spring Street at the foot of the Ashley River Bridge.

for refreshments and would talk to Walt briefly. Walt and I later became to be very good friends after Post #445 relocated on Camp Road shopping center near Dills Bluff Dd. Walt was instrumental in getting 445 back on firm footing. Walt and I shared a lot of memories and beverage's over the years. The time came when Walt was no longer able to drive. I was a frequent visitor and we continued to enjoy our fellowship, I last visited Walt Dec 7 2009. I have lost a great friend but not the memory's. I salute my friend.
Semper fidelis.

We are saddened to hear that Mr. Herbert has passed away. We have fond memories of the time that we lived across the street from his Tennis Center on James Island. He always encouraged the neighborhood kids come out and play tennis! He was a GREAT man and our thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this most trying time.
