Walter Hartman Obituary

HARTMAN, Walter Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 13, 2008, Walter Cummings Hartman, husband of Frankie McNabb Hartman; resident of Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Hartman are invited to attend his funeral services in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2008 at one o'clock. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel this Friday evening from six until eight o'clock. Mr. Hartman was born on April 12, 1920 in Marion County, Tennessee, a son of Martin and Ida White Hartman. Mr. Hartman was a retired Auto Mechanic with Palmetto Ford for thirty five years, and was a stock car driver in the first race at Darlington Speedway and held the Tennessee State Stock Car Championship for three years, 1947, 1948, and 1949. He was a Charter Member of Nascar, member of the Georgia Dirt Track Driver Association and finished forth in Grand National Points in 1954. Walter was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite and a Shriner. Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Patricia Hendricks and husband Charles of Charleston, SC and Billie Steen and husband Billy of Adams Run, SC; a son Jackie Hartman and wife Nancy of Ladson, SC; a brother, Elbert Hartman of Jackson, KY; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Mr. Hartman was preceded in death by fifteen brothers and sisters. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website, www.jhenrystuhr.com.
