Vivian Looms Obituary

Vivian B. Looms CHARLESTON - Vivian B. Looms, 93, passed away at her Bishop Gadsden residence in Charleston, SC on Thursday, March 26, 2015. She was born to Leroy and Beatrice Broock in S. Waverly, PA on January 15, 1922. She was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. In 1943, she married Richard T. Looms. They were married 53 years and traveled throughout the country during his career in the Air Force. He predeceased her in 1996. After receiving Girl Scouting's highest honor, the Golden Eaglet, at the age of 17, she dedicated thousands of tireless hours during her lifetime to volunteer work, including Girl Scouting, the Red Cross, the VA Hospital (Tucson, AZ) and the Daughters of the Nile. After moving to Bishop Gadsden in 1999, where she was affectionately known as "the (jigsaw) puzzle lady," she created hundreds of quilt tops for hospitalized children, as well as children in Afghanistan and the Blackfeet Reservation in Wyoming. She is survived by three daughters: Roanne L. Fogle of Statesville, NC, Romaine D. Looms of Gilsum, NH and Donna Looms Emerson and her husband Barry of Charleston, SC; two granddaughters and one great-grandson. Services will be private and interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with her husband. Memorials may be made to Lowcountry Food Bank, 2864 Azalea Dr., North Charleston, SC 29405, Residence Assistance Fund, 1 Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412 or Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Rd., North Charleston, SC 29406. Her daughters wish to thank the entire staff of Bishop Gadsden for their loving care and attention during their mother's residence, as well as Hospice of Charleston during her final days. Arrangements have been entrusted to McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, Phone 843-614-8494. Donna, I´m thinking of you and your sisters and other family on the anniversary of your mother´s death. What a wonderful woman she was! She will always be remembered as one who served others through her volunteer work. I´m grateful she served with Girl Scouts, as that was such a big part of my life. Know that I care, and my prayers are with you!
