Virginia Wood Obituary

WOOD, Virginia Virginia Anne Duval Wood of Charleston, SC died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the home of her brother, Dr. Laurence, W. Wood, Jr. in Darlington, SC. Miss Wood was born October 4, 1931 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurence W. Wood, SR. (Marguerite Johnston). She was a graduate of Ashley Hall School and Winthrop College. She also completed some studies for a Masters Degree at the University of Mexico. She was a teacher at Chicora High School for many years and then went to work for the VA Hospital in Charleston where she was the secretary to the Administrator, until she retired. Miss Wood was a life long member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, The Historical Society and was very active in the pursuit of genealogy. She was also very involved in The Scottish Games and was proud to wear her tartan. Surviving are her brother, Dr. Laurence W. Wood, Jr. and his wife Henrietta Blanding Wood; two nieces: Loren Bradley Hamilton and her husband Todd Hamilton; Marguerite W. Dozier and her husband Michael Lawrence Dozier, Jr.; and a nephew Mark Campbell Wood and his wife Dana Hartgraves Wood; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. The funeral service will be held at eleven-thirty o'clock, Saturday, May 6, 2006, in Trinity United Methodist Church with the interment to follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Friday between five and seven o'clock Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Virginia was a very special lady and I treasure the years we worked together at the VA hospital. Her kindness is something I will always remember. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
