Virginia Stone Obituary

Virginia Lee Allen Stone SUMMERVILLE - Virginia Lee Allen Stone, age 90, of Summerville, SC, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. Mrs. Stone was born in Florence, SC., on November 1, 1920, the daughter of Fred Lee Allen and Theresa Baldowski Allen. She grew up in Greenville and later Evergreen, SC, where she graduated from Tans Bay High School. She was married to Edwin Hoyt Stone, from Effingham, SC, after which they moved to Charleston, SC. They lived on James Island for over 50 years. Mrs. Stone had been an active member of Harbor View Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, member of the morning circle of the Presbyterian Women, the Live Wires, and various committees over the years. She is remembered by friends as someone who, when talking with you, always gave you her undivided attention. She was a great lady, well loved, very sweet, and proper. In 2002 she moved to the Presbyterian Village in Summerville, where she enjoyed being a part of the Presbyterian Home Band, singing in the church choir, and was a contributing member of their Poetry Group. Mrs. Stone loved her Lord, her family, her friends, and animals. She enjoyed playing bridge and played in two bridge clubs for many years on James Island and later at the Presbyterian Home. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Theresa ("Terry") Stone and her husband Bob, of Alto, GA; nieces Carol Allen Storm and husband Bruce of Augusta, GA, and Marie Allen Gallagher and husband Peter of Hepzibah, GA. She is also survived by a step-grandson, Rev. Stanley Warren Stone and his wife Nancy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and a step-granddaughter Doris Elaine Stone Carr and her husband Lands of Panama City, FL.; step-great grandchildren Peter Davidson Stone, Christopher Waring Stone, and Callie Elizabeth Stone, all of Mt. Pleasant; and many wonderful friends and special dogs. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, her parents, brothers Fred Lee Allen, Jr. and his wife Martha Goldman Allen, and Forrest Adolf Allen; a number of cousins and close friends; and her special cat Fluffy. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Philip West and Rev. Stanley Stone at the Chapel at the Village at Summerville, 201 W. 9th North Street, Summerville, SC, on Saturday, July 16 at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Thanks to all of you for your sweet notes of condolence. I do miss just being able to call my mom and say hello. But, she is so happy now, and I am happy for her. She's where she wants to be.

I vaguely remember your Mother. She is waiting to be called to Heaven. No pain or discomfort has their grip on her now. She is resting. When we were little and went to your house to play she was always pleasant.
My name is Paula Pooser from J.I.High School. Keep the thoughts of her and still be happy.
