Virginia Rubano Obituary

Virginia Houlihan Rubano CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - Virginia Houlihan Rubano, 86, peacefully passed away on October 13, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was born on September 29, 1939, in Akron, Ohio. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Norbert Anthony; her children, Kathleen Ann Rubano (John), Judith Estelle Rubano, and Susan Christine Vara (Ron); her grandchildren, James Matthew Koval and Kathleen Ann Koval; and her brothers, James Joseph Houlihan (Rosemary) and Robert Louis Houlihan (Diane). She was preceded in death by her parents, James Joseph Houlihan and Sarah Phyllis Houlihan; her sister, Sally Ann Pack; and her grandson, John Anthony Velez. Graduating from Garfield High School in 1958, she was a varsity cheerleader and co-captain of the squad, showing early signs of leadership and enthusiasm. Her passion for helping others led her to a career in healthcare, beginning as an X-ray technician at Akron Children's Hospital. Her caring nature and dedication to service guided her into hospital social services and later to the Department on Aging in Aiken, South Carolina, where she continued to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others. She also pursued higher education at Western Kentucky University, further enriching her ability to serve her community. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, compassion and commitment to those in need. Virginia was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother whose life radiated warmth, joy and generosity. She always put others first, bringing cheer and optimism to every moment with her infectious laughter and sparkling sense of humor. Beautiful inside and out, Virginia had a remarkable gift for making people feel welcome - whether through her cooking, elegant hosting or impeccable decorating and style. Her vibrant spirit and kindness touched everyone she met, leaving behind a legacy of love and grace that will be remembered forever. Her deep devotion to family was reflected in the many moves she made throughout her life. She lived in Bowling Green, Kentucky; Brownwood, Texas; Aiken, South Carolina; St. Paul, Minnesota; Greensburg, Pennsylvania; and Charleston, South Carolina, often relocating to support her husband's career and to nurture her family's journey. Her commitment extended beyond borders, as she also lived abroad in Ankara, Turkey and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, embracing each new experience with warmth and grace. Family and friends are invited to honor her life on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Seaside Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with entombment to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Seaside Memorial Park.

Dr. Rubano, so sorry for the loss of your Mom. May God give you and your family comfort during this sad time. I still live in Mt. Pleasant; you would not believe how MP has grown and changed. I think of you often. Eileen Richardson
