Virginia Bennett Obituary

BENNETT, Virginia Virginia Elizabeth Hook Bennett, 72 of Lincolnville, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2008. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Virginia Bennett are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at two o'clock in J HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel on Saturday afternoon from twelve o'clock until time of the service. Virginia, better known as Ginger, was born December 22, 1935 in Queens, New York, daughter of the late Harry Hook and Florence Carlson Hook Carper. As varied as her musical collections, (Ginger adored music from Frank Sinatra to Earth, Wind and Fire to Andre Bocelli), her vocations in life were just as diverse. Her first paid job, (as an early teenager), was as an extra in the original version of Little Women. She held hands with Peter Lawford in the wedding sequence and she never forgot the fun of it. She went on to be a model, the first U.S. female Rent-A-Car Agent, a radio DJ, a professional singer, a teletypist for the F.A.A., a Beautician Consultant, and finally retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as a clerical/typist. Through these years she was a wonderful homemaker and a much beloved mother. Ginger was loyal, patriotic, and excellent listener and most of all just fun to be with. Although Ginger has to leave us after a long fought battle, we feel that just as the Lord gave her many talents, these gifts were needed in heaven. There will be many family and friends to greet and welcome her. Surviving are two daughters, Lori Turner of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Gloria Bolchoz-Cofield of Goose Creek, SC; one brother, Dr. Edgar Butler Hatrick, III of Leesburg, VA; one sister, Gloria E. Hatrick of South Salem, NY; six grandchildren, Jayme and Eugene Bolchoz of Goose Creek, SC, Casey, Carly and Colby Cofield of Goose Creek, SC and Richie Turner of Mt. Pleasant, SC; five nieces and nephews, Elizabeth and William Hatrick of Los Angeles, CA, Eddie Hatrick of Brunswick, ME, Tom and Matthew Jaggar of London, England; and two grand nieces, Lily and Evie Hatrick of Brunswick, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity closest to your heart. Memorial messages are written to the family by visiting website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Dear Lori, Gloria, Gloria, Skip, and other members of Ginger's family -- This is Don and Audrey Williams, formerly of the Washington,D.C. area and friends of Ginger's for years. Don's mother and Ginger's mother worked together at Garfinckel's department store in Washington way back in the '50s and thus began a long friendship with Ginger and family. A circle of friends evolved and there were always parties and get-togethers going on. Ginger was at our wedding 40 years ago and we attended her wedding reception when she married Rick. We had a ball. We all eventually went our separate ways but we always kept in contact at Christmas and birthdays and so forth. Ginger always kept us up to date with family news and latest developments. We are so sorry to hear the sad news and will miss hearing from her occasionally via e-mails and cards. We want to express our sincere condolences to the entire family and to wish you all our very best wishes.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Over the years, I thought about Ginger many times and wondered how she was doing. I worked with her at the Shipyard until I transferred to Kings Bay. She was truly a very pleasant and honest person. Much love to each of you.
