Viola HOHENSTREET Obituary

HOHENSTREET, Viola Jean
89 Years of Life

A longtime resident of Chattaroy, Washington, Jean was the first-born of four children, three girls and their baby brother to Toliver Franklin Evans and Verna Iola Hart Evans at Globe, Gila County, Arizona. Her childhood was spent primarily in Arizona and Alberta, Canada. She graduated from high school in Bremerton, Washington.

Jean was working in the Navy shipyard in Bremerton in 1945 when she met William Louis Hohenstreet. They were married on July 21, 1945, in Bremerton, Washington.

Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill and Jean moved to Union, Missouri for a brief time before moving permanently to northeastern Washington.

Bill and Jean arrived in Republic, Washington, in 1946 where Bill began working in Republic, WA, St. Maries, Fenn, and Grangeville, Idaho. Bill and Jean moved their family to their home in Chattaroy, Washington in 1960.

Jean was a lifelong wife, mother, and homemaker. She was always actively involved in the lives and activities of her three children. She served as Den Mother when her son was in Scouts, advisor and leader with her two daughters in all their activities, often a proxy mother, counselor and seamstress for numerous other girls.

Jean loved her family, children, grandchildren, and enjoyed working with and helping people.

Jean passed away on July 28, 2016, in Spokane, Washington. She was preceded in death by Bill, "the love of her life" in April of this year.

Jean is survived by her sister, Marjorie Bell of Deer Park, WA; a brother, James Evans of Eugene, OR; her son, Bill and Gail Hohenstreet of Post Falls, Idaho; her daughters, Mary Mayo, Zihuatanejo, Guerroro, Mexico and Sue Ann and Conrad Dodd of Bremerton, WA. Jean enjoyed nine grandsons, three granddaughters, twenty-three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. There are numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Services honoring Mrs. Hohenstreet will be at 2:15 P.M., Friday, August 19, 2016, at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery at Medical Lake, Washington, with her son, Pastor William J. Hohenstreet officiating.

Though I only met Jean in May of this year, I could tell she was a kind, and loving person. The times that I visited her at the Veteran's Home, she always geeted me with the biggest smile.

So sorry that I didn't meet her and Bill sooner, as we have been sort of across- the-highway- neighbors for so many years.

My condolences to the family. I pray for God's peace and strength for the Hohenstreet family, for the difficult year this has been.
