Vincent Seguin Obituary

Vincent Leo Seguin CHARLESTON - Vincent Leo Seguin, 95, of Charleston, S.C., died August 27, 2016 at NHC (Healthcare Center) in Charleston. Born June 16, 1921 in Duluth, MN, he was the son of Leo Napoleon Seguin and Theresa Yderstad Seguin. Vincent was a graduate of Denfeld High School in W. Duluth, MN, and was a U.S. veteran, having served in the Army-Air Corps in England, Dijon, France, Sardinia, and Algeria in Africa during World War II. While in Dijon, he met and became friends with the Robert Lembrez family of Dijon. They visited each other many times since then and remained close friends all these years. After the war Vincent earned a degree in English and Play Production from the University of Minnesota and began teaching in Superior, WI. He went on to earn a Master's degree in teaching from Columbia University. He taught in E. Orange, NJ. Though highly successful in that job, circumstances warranted his return to Duluth. He then began to teach at Denfeld High School. While teaching there, he won a Ford Foundation grant to study for a year at the Sorbonne in Paris, during which time he also became fluent in French. Vincent returned to his job at Denfeld High School and taught there until retirement. By all accounts, he was an excellent teacher and director of plays and musicals, and directed many at the schools where he worked. He also directed many plays at the "Duluth Playhouse" local theater. Vincent is survived by his longtime partner and friend of more than 50 years, Claude Mark Reed of Charleston. He is survived by his nephews, Terry Lee Seguin of Sturgeon Lake, MN, Ronald (Ron) Seguin of Duluth, and William (Billy) Seguin of Ohio, and a niece, Suzanne (Suzy) Vegar of Duluth; his cousins, Robin Seguin of Clarkdale, AZ, Mary June Donahue of Duluth, Maureen Reif of Skandia, Michigan; and his (second) cousins, Corinne Miller, Madison Wi, Svanhilde Gustavsen, Hamar, Norway, Beret Larson, Fevik, Norway, and Turid Thoresen, Frederikstad, Norway; also his adoptive French family, Dr. Bernard and Micheline Lembrez Mignot, and Danielle Lembrez Pintus, all of Talant, France; and his adoptive South Carolina family and caregivers, Timothy Reed, Goose Creek, SC, Ann Avant, Charleston, Gloria Marksberry, Ridgeville, SC, and Cindi Venittelli, Angie McGoldrick, and Dawn Wilcox, all three of Summerville, SC. In accordance with Vincent's wishes, there will be no memorial service. Memorial support may be donated to your local animal shelter. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
