Vincent Eck Obituary

ECK, Vincent Vincent Paul Eck, 56, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina died January 9, 2009 at his home. He was born on April 4,1952 in Charleston, SC and was the son of Leone T. Eck of Hilton Head Island and the late John E. Eck Jr. He was a member of Saint Francis By the Sea Catholic Church. He served as the President of Trident Villa Rentals at Palmetto Dunes. He also served as the president of Shelter Cove Harbour Company and the immediate past president and founding member of the Lowcountry Property Management Association. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cecile O'Neill Eck; two sons, John Emmett Thomas Eck of Hilton Head Island, SC and Charles Carter Hopkins of Charleston, SC; a daughter, Sarah Bacot Hopkins of Columbia, SC; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Carol Eck of Greenwood, SC: two nephews, Jonothon and Brandon Eck of Greenwood, SC; a mother-in-law, Elizabeth M. O'Neill of Charleston, SC; two brothers-in-law, Dennis E. O'Neill (Lisa) of Mt. Pleasant, and John W. O'Neill (Ann) of Columbia, SC; three sisters-in-law, Patricia O. DeTreville (Jim) , and Teresa O. Turnbell (Mark), both of Charleston, and Peggy O'Neill (Al Watts) of Richmond, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, on Monday, January 12, 2009 at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island. Memorials may be made to Lowcountry Property Management Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 21645, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29925. Dear Vince's Family...although I had neither seen nor spoken to Vince in 30 years, I still considered him a close friend. Over the years, whenever I would think of him, I would find myself smiling silly..he did that to you, I'm sure you know. Vince was a family friend & a big part of my teen years. He was lead singer in a band that played "Teen" nights @ the rec center (& was a really good singer!), he drove a loud, baby blue VW (they were ALL loud then), always had a joke, was SUPER energetic & such a gentleman. I'm sorry we lost touch but am sure he had a marvelous life w/ many people to love & to love him. Peace to you all- God bless you.

Cecile and family,
I was sadden to hear about Vince. He was one of the most wonderful people I was privileged to know. Prior to his marriage to you Cecile, Vince shared how much he loved you, the joy that you brought to his life and how excited he was that you and your children would be a permanent part of his life. I was excited to learn that you had a child together. I am sure that he was a wonderful father. Vince will be missed by all who knew him. You all have my deepest sympathies.
