Victoria 'Cricket' Ward McGriff, 95, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 7, 2025, at her residence in St. Stephen, SC. Born September 2, 1930, in St. Stephen, she was the beloved daughter of Belton Brockington Ward and Mary Magdalene Guerry Ward.
Mrs. McGriff was a dedicated and hardworking individual, having retired as a secretary for Albany International. Her career began as a switchboard operator for the St. Stephen Telephone Company, and she later worked for Santee River Hardwood. A graduate of St. Stephen High School, she was a charter member of the St. Stephen Evangelical Church, where she cherished her church family deeply. Many days Mrs. McGriff could be found sitting on her front porch waving at the children making their way to and from school as well as other passersby.
Mrs. McGriff had a passion for music, singing, and dancing, often enjoying these activities at the Bonneau Beach Pavilion in her youth. She also loved painting and was an avid college football fan, especially of Carolina and Clemson. Together with her late husband, Edgar 'Guy' McGriff, she enjoyed traveling, visiting flea markets, and auctions, and making trips to Mississippi and Texas to visit family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ward, and a son-in-law, Bill Grimsley, and she was the widow of Edgar "Guy" McGriff.
She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters Terry M. Hoffman and her husband, Bobby, of St. Stephen, Jerry M. Grimsley of Alvin, and Mary M. VanWyk and her husband, Michael, of Macedonia; her son, Eddie McGriff and his wife, Debra, of Macedonia; eleven grandchildren, Trey (Candice) McGriff, Saralyn (Theo) Rivera, Anita (Ky) Myers, Marsha (Jeremy) Lee, Shelly Burnette, Vicky Grimsley, Emily (Chris) Teer, Blane Hoffman, Lane (Kim) Hoffman, Jeremy (Melissa) VanWyk, and Ryan VanWyk; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2025, in the St. Stephen Evangelical Church. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 PM until the hour of service on Wednesday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the
