Vicki Jo Becker FAIRFIELD, TX - Vicki Jo (Black) Becker, formerly of James Island, passed away in Fairfield, Texas on February 21, 2022 at the age of 74. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Dew, TX. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Dew. Interment will follow services in the Dew Cemetery located at the church. Vicki was born to Purvis and Louise Black on April 26, 1947 in Teague, Texas. She was married to Paul Becker on May 28, 1966. At the time of their marriage, she was worked for a title company in Austin, Texas, and he was enrolled at Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University) in San Marcos, Texas, and working part-time for Lone Star Gas and Round Rock Lime Company, in Round Rock, Texas. Their son, Chris, was born in San Marcos in 1968. In 1969, they moved to College Station, where Paul entered graduate school at Texas A&M and Vicki took the position of Secretary to the Chair of the Meteorology Department. While in College Station, their daughter, Lori, was born in 1970. After Paul's graduation in 1972, his work took the family to many locations to live throughout the next several decades, including locations in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alaska, Maryland, and South Carolina. In 1995, Vicki and Paul moved to James Island, where they lived for the next 25 years. In 2020 and after retirement, Vicki and Paul returned to Texas and settled in Fairfield. Through the years, Vicki's intelligence, organizational skills, hard work and integrity were much appreciated by various employers in diverse areas of work: retail, real estate, office management, insurance, and medical transcription. Vicki and Paul were long-time members of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church. Vicki was always active in the Church, participating in women's church groups and always involved in Christian education. She taught Sunday School and Summer Vacation Bible School in several different churches over the years. Her family was everything to her. She had a loving and nurturing spirit. She took care of her family and her dogs. She loved camping and fishing, particularly when she lived in Alaska. She was very artistic. She was particularly interested in toll painting and cross-stitch. She was very proud of her skills at the piano, a talent she passed on to several of her grandchildren. She loved to read and, like her mother, was an excellent cook. Vicki leaves behind her cherished family: husband, Paul Becker, son, Chris Becker and wife, Stephanie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and daughter, Lori Hamill and husband, Rich of Summerville, SC; 9 grandchildren - Chris Becker, Jr., Jacob Hamill, Sarah Becker-Gutierrez, Mikaela Becker-Hoff, Ryan Hamill, William Becker, Ellie Hamill, Amanda Becker, and Abby Hamill; 2 great-grandchildren, Caleigh Becker and June Becker. She is also survived by her brothers, Barry Black (wife Deborah) and Steve Black (wife, Teresa); sisters, Janet Sustaire (husband, David) and Susan Lane (husband, Dennis); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Purvis Black, her mother, Louise Black, and her sister, Cheryl Black.
