Vernelle Williams Obituary

Vernelle S. Williams, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on July 19, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, Vernelle was the cherished daughter of the late Francis and Ina Sedgwick. Raised with strong values of faith, integrity, and service, she carried those principles with her throughout her life. Vernelle served with distinction as secretary to the Head of Nuclear Engineering at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, a role she approached with dedication and grace during a pivotal time in the shipyard's history. Her professionalism and quiet strength earned her the respect of colleagues and friends alike. She was the devoted wife of the late Hugh E. Williams, Sr., with whom she shared many loving years. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for their family. Above all, Vernelle loved her family. She found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended family; always ready with a warm smile, a kind word, and an open heart. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and faith that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy W. Starns; her grandchildren: AJ Starns, Ashton Williams, Haley Williams, Michael Williams, Jr., and Caleb Williams; as well as her great grandchildren: Kylie Starns, Chloe Starns, Mackynzie Starns, Brody Starns, Braxton Morris, and Ryland Morris. She was preceded in death by her loving sons: Hugh Williams, Jr. and Michael Williams, Sr.
