Verna Turner Obituary

Our angel mother passed away quietly on March 5, 2014, at the age of 96, leaving a legacy of service, love and faith. She was born Oct. 18, 1917, the first of seven children born to David L. and Marion Nelson Olsen. Verna married Marden Arthur Turner in the Logan Temple, Aug. 20, 1942. They made their home in Young Ward and were blessed with a family of three sons and three daughters. Marden passed away in 1975.
Verna was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout her life. She served missions to the Western States (1939) and California, Anaheim (1982), worked in the Logan Temple for many years and spent untold hours as a missionary in the Logan Genealogical Library. She was an expert in Danish research, teaching classes in reading and understanding Danish records. She was among the first to do extraction work before the Extraction Program was established. She served in many positions in the Primary organization, particularly as chorister for more than a decade. She was also highly involved in the 4-H program.
Verna was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Nothing made her happier than to be with her family. She will be greatly missed.
Verna is survived by her children, David A. (Marilyn) Turner of Virginia; G. Allen (Billie) Turner of Utah; V. Marianne (Brent) Fredrickson of Utah; Jeffrey L. Turner of Utah; Deborah L. Turner of Utah; and Susan R. (Mark) Harbertson of Utah; 16 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Rulon (Vera) Olsen, James Olsen, Evan (Ines) Olsen, sister Anna Olsen Morrill, and sister-in-law, Norma S. Olsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Ross and Keith, sisters-in-law JoAnn L. Olsen and Norma C. Olsen, and brother-in-law Horace Morrill.
Funeral Services will be held at the Young Ward Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 10 at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan, Utah, and 10:30-11:15 a.m. at the church, prior to services. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.allenmortuaries.net. I have memories of Verna in every aspect of my life when I was growing up. She was always there, serving, smiling, loving, doing genealogy, singing. We will miss her very much!

Wow 97 years old! Psalm 90:10 says that our life span is 70 years, 80 if especially strong. Mrs. Turner must have been a very strong woman. May your cherished memories help you trough this difficult time.

Dear Susan and Mark and family,
What a beautiful tribute to your mom. I feel so lucky that I was able to meet her. I knew immediately why she had such a wonderful daughter. I know she is so happy, but I also know her going home leaves your heart tender. I will keep you in my prayers. Love, Thrella

Aunt Verna was my mom's very best friend from the time they were just children. Aunt Ada would take them to movies and they would stay over at Gr. Grandma Olsen's home. So many good memories of her family

Very few families have the blessing of a multi-generational geneologist like the James Olsen descendants had in Verna Olsen Turner. She blessed thousands of lives and future generations with her vigilant book-keeping. Mark as a professional photographer guaranteed preservation of many of Verna's original photographs in tribute to her life-time commitment to linking generations together.

Dear Turner Clan (and all the Young Ward Olsen's)
Oh, the glorious reunion Aunt Verna is having in the heavens with her family and all those for whom she did geneology, as well as her many family members waiting for her on the other side. I can just imagine how many people are thanking her for doing their work. She is such a wonderful woman, and your lives are a tribute to her wonderful life. May the Lord bless you in this sorrowful time with happy memories of the beautiful person, mother and friend she was!
