Verna Campbell Obituary

CAMPBELL, Verna HAMPTON - Mrs. Verna Elizabeth Hoover DeLoach Campbell, 94, widow of the late Merrill K. "Happy" Campbell, died Sunday in Denver, Colorado. Mrs. Campbell was born July 18, 1911, in Varnville, a daughter of the late William Frank Hoover and Annie M. Rentz Hoover. She was the former owner and operator of DeLoach's Restaurant in Hampton for many years, and retired as manager of Fairdale Country Club in Allendale County. She was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church. Surviving are: daughters, Anne Overby of Miami, Florida, and Cynthia "Ginger" DeLoach-Thomas of Bennett, Colorado; step-children, Ethel Davis of Williston, South Carolina, Hazel Smith of Early Branch, Marcia Wood of Varnville, and Charles Campbell of Hampton; sisters, Miriam Connelly of North Augusta, and Lois Duckworth of Memphis, Tennessee; brother, E.U. Hoover of Virginia; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, in the Chapel of Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton, conducted by Rev. Dr. Greg Clements, and Rev. Larry Connelly, with burial in the Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, and Friday morning prior to services. The family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 101, Columbia, S.C. 29201.
