Vera Oxendine Obituary

Vera Oxendine HANAHAN - The family of Vera Oxendine would like to invite those who knew her to a celebration of her life at Riverbluff Baptist Church on Saturday, October 27 at 11:00 am. Vera passed away on October 15 after a valiant 19-year battle with breast cancer. Her loving husband of over 55 years, George was there by her side till the very end. She was an American Indian born June 14, 1936 in North Carolina to Magnolia and Martin L. Oxendine and after marrying George she had Darlene and Mike. George's 20-year Naval career brought them to Charleston. While here she and George opened a business selling unique and beautiful baskets in the Charleston Market for 30 years. She will be missed there as well as at Riverbluff Baptist where she and George attended for over 40 years. She is survived by her daughter Darlene O. Rawls MD of Charleston, and her son Mike Oxendine of Jacksonville Florida, her sisters Mary Brewer, Roseanna Hall, and her brother Martin Oxendine. She is preceded in death by an infant son, her brothers Charles Oxendine, Birtir Oxendine, her sisters Jane Jacobs, and Magnolia Hammonds. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Silgals, Dr. Colby Grossman, Dr. Tom Litton, Dr. Lloyd Mandel, Transitions Health Care, and all of their staff for the wonderful care over the past decades for Vera. Her Body was interred October 19th at the National Cemetery in Florence SC with a wonderful family service by Pastor Curt Bradford. There was also a great service at the City Market in her honor. Donations of money or flowers may be made in honor of VERA OXENDINE to Riverbluff Baptist Church, 5421 Riverbluff Parkway, North Charleston, SC, 29420 (843) 266-6328.
