Valisha DeWitt Obituary

Valisha Walling DeWitt WALTERBORO - Mrs. Valisha Walling DeWitt, 83, of Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Saturday afternoon, January 29, 2011, surrounded by her loving family in her home under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina. She was the widow of Mr. Columbus DeWitt, Sr. Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, February 1, 2011, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro. Serving as honorary escorts will be: Dr. Joseph Flowers, Dr. Peterman vonLehe, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, and Dr. Gregory Compton. Mrs. DeWitt was born September 3, 1927, in the Rum Gully area of Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Edgar Walling. She was a member of the Walterboro Church of God. Valisha loved life and loved people. For many years she cross stitched and would always give her work to others. Another joy in her life was being in her yards, tending and cultivating her flowers in her yards. She will be remembered for her gentle and kind natured spirit; as well as the love she possessed for her family, always centering her life around her loving family and being especially proud of her beloved dog, "Prissie". Surviving are: five children, Frank DeWitt and his wife Carolyn, Patricia Smith and her husband Ray, Pearl Beach and her husband Gerald, Columbus DeWitt, Jr. and his wife Bridgett, and Roy DeWitt and his wife Lisa all of Walterboro; a brother, Charles Walling of Clinton; and three sisters, Jane Edwards of Charleston, Evelyn DeWitt of Sumter, and Mary Shill of Walterboro. There are eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren that also survive. The family would like to express their heart felt gratitude and appreciation to the administration and staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina and Mrs. Lee DeJesus, CNA, for the devotion, care, and dedication given to Mrs. DeWitt in her final stages of life. Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following: Hospice Care of South Carolina 134 Bells Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Walterboro Church of God, Post Office Box 361, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488. We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. May God give you comfort during this time of grief. May your friends and family be there for you in the days ahead. All of you were so good to your mom. Just know she is in heaven with your dad and all of the ones gone before her, preparing a place for you all to be with her again. We love you.
