Tommy Boals Obituary

Tommy Ray Boals, Sr. Wando, SC - Tommy Ray Boals, Sr., 74, of Wando, South Carolina, husband of Karen Distler Boals, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, February 15, 2022. His funeral service will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022, at The Stables at Boals Farm, 242 Boals Farm Rd., Charleston, SC at 2:00 pm. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 19, 2022 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Tommy was born April 14, 1947 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, son of the late Ronald Milford Boals, Sr. and the late Louise Bessinger Boals. Tommy started the family business, Mt. Pleasant Tree Service in 1976, and retired in 2020 after 43 years of building a flawless reputation for professionalism and affordability. The landscape and history of the Lowcountry would not be the same without the image of Tommy driving his blue tractor all around Shem Creek, working hard to beautify the grounds of the neighboring businesses. Tommy left a final message for all of us who knew and loved him, "Just because I'm gone, doesn't mean you can drive on my grass." He enjoyed classic cars, collectibles, and most of all his family. He is survived by his spouse of 29 years, Karen Boals of Wando, SC; children, Tara Brown (Ty) of Winston-Salem, NC, Tommy Ray Boals, Jr. of Mount Pleasant, SC, Jason Aaron Boals (Lauren) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Jason Barley (Clancie) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Josh Barley (Chrystal) of Columbia SC and Ashley Truitt (Matt) of Lexington, NC; and his brother Ronnie Boals, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; and ten grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Brown, Layton and Pressley Boals, Baker and Bennett Barley, Dylan and Landon Barley, and Whitley and Waylon Truitt. He is preceded in death by his sister Dyanne Whitton. Memorials may be made to St. Jude, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

My wife, Connie and I, have known Tommy for many years. I would see him a lot while I was working at Royall Ace Hardware. He would always sail through the doors, yell out my nick name, "J.R"!! Tommy would always brighten up a room when he arrived. He will be missed by family all who knew him.
We last saw Tommy last August 30th while standing in line for our Covid Booster shots in North Charleston. Can't believe he's gone. R.I.P. Tommy, we loved you.

So saddened by the news of Tommy's passing. He was a kind, thoughtful man. Every Friday he would bring everyone's favorite candy bar to the banking center where I worked! He didn't miss a Friday! Wonderful memories! Rest in peace!

Ah, Tommy Ray !

NOW, YOU HAVE PULLED THE "BIG ONE !"
Regret I was Unable Tonight to go to Your Visitation; and Unable to attend Your Funeral Tomorrow. But, There with You all "In Spirit."

Did You have ANY Idea How MANY Tears would Fall on Your Behalf, and that of Your Family, when the News got around of Your Passing away ?

Thank You for all Your Years of Friendship, the Jokes, we'd tell each other; the Many Laughs about Life in General; and Memories of Years gone by with all of us knowing each other.

You have left BEHIND a MIGHTY BIG "EMPTY SPACE" In a Lot of Lives and Hearts, Tommy Ray !

God~Speed, My Friend; and Hope it is all You planned for it to be.

AT LEAST; NOW...YOU "KNOW THE SECRET !"
You Know; the One all US were told all our Lives about "What happens to us at Our DEATH on this Earth...."

{ FAITH, My Friend.....FAITH makes it ALWAYS "TRUE !" }

Never Forgetting !

Our heartfelt condolences to the Boals family in this time of such immense sorrow. What a larger-than-life life Tommy led! He was at the front of the line when God handed out personalities... We feel honored to be one of the many he told not to park on his grass.

Tommy was part of the fabric of Mount Pleasant for me, whenever I would see him on Shem Creek or around town he was a reminder that I was home and part of the family of Mount Pleasant. I will miss seeing him around town and our Mount Pleasant family will seem a little empty without him. Love and healing to all of his family and friends.

Such a sweet family. I've driven by Boals Farms for many years. Such a beautiful place. Always think of Heaven there. Now, I know its true because God will have him watching out for his Heaven on Earth.

My son and daughter-in-law were married there. I was so happy to hear they picked the "Heaven" in Boals Farm. He and his family make you feel like you are part of them. Hope it stays exactly as he left it.
God bless. Ps I will run anyone off your grass if I see them in passing.

So very sorry to hear that Tommy has passed. First met him at Taylor’s Texaco about 50 years ago. Talked with him at Blue’s and he did a fair amount of tree work for me. I will miss him.
