Tiny Funderburk Obituary

Tiny "Fee" Ophelia Funderburk Charleston - Tiny "Fee" Ophelia Funderburk, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of William Johnson Funderburk passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 25, 2018 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A service of celebration will be held Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Ashley River Baptist Church, 1101 Savannah Hwy., at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Fee was born July 19, 1938 in Eastover, South Carolina, daughter of the late Frederick Eugene Heape and Tiny Cobb Heape. She graduated from Lower Richland High School and MUSC nursing school. She served as a nurse for many years, as well as being a successful real estate agent. She was an active member of Northbridge Garden Club, Ashley River Baptist Church, and the Ruth Sunday School Class, where she also served as a teacher. Often heard before she was seen, she was a spirited conversationalist and served others with a fierce compassion. Beyond her active role in the community, her greatest joy came from her family. For 58 wonderful years, she was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. Together, she and her husband raised their two beautiful daughters, traveled together, and enjoyed gardening. A loving mother, she often sewed clothes for her girls and strongly supported their many interests and activities as a cheerleader and volunteer. Her grandchildren brought a new level of joy to her life, and her proudest title was Grammy. She was always there - from making pancakes at midnight, serving as a flower girl, sharing fashion advice, giving spiritual guidance and wisdom, being readily available to listen and comfort, to being a devoted supporter of their many passions. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, William Johnson Funderburk of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Jeannine Funderburk Motsinger (Scott) of Chapin, SC, Tracy Funderburk Gregory (David) of Cary, NC; sister, Faye Heape of Sumter, SC; two brothers, Toye Heape of Chattanooga, TN, Jack Heape of Batesburg-Leesville, SC; cherished family friend, Paula Epperson; five grandchildren, Amanda Gregory, Katy Motsinger, Marguerite M. Murray (Ian), Reid Motsinger, and Nicole Motsinger. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean Gialenios and a brother F.C. Heape. Memorials may be made to Eason Memorial Baptist Church, P.O. 564, Eastover, South Carolina 29044. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Ophelia and went through high school together, played basketball, were in plays, and truly enjoyed four years of life together. Reconnected when she and her family moved to Columbia for Johnson to attend graduate school. Loved spending time with her and her daughters as my girls were about the same age. Have such fond memories of our many high school days and realize how fortunate we were to grow during that time. Can only imagine the void that she leaves in the lives of her entire family. She was a wonderful person and her personality could light up a room. Please know all of you are in my heart, thoughts, and prays. Ann Young Hunter

Fee will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I was lucky enough to meet her when Tracy was in the Middleton High School Singers and I was the choral director there. Fee was an enthusiastic supporter of the Singers and was the driving force behind establishing a booster club for the group. She loved the students and they loved her right back. She always had words of encouragement, support, or praise for them - whatever was needed at a particular time. Her wonderful smile and positive attitude were a blessing to both me and my students. I will always remember Fee and the bright light she brought into my life.

Johnson, Jeannine, and Tracy, you have my deepest sympathy.
