Thomas Wessel Obituary

Thomas Jacob Wessel GREENVILLE - Thomas Jacob Wessel, 83, widower of Jane Chaplin Hay Wessel, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at NHC of Greenville. Born in Andrews, SC, he was the son of the late Henry Jacob and Flora Byrd Wessel. Mr. Wessel was a retired Business Manager of Associated Oil Company and member of Eastlan Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Surviving are a daughter, Jean Mauldin and husband, Steven, of Williamston; a son, Thomas Wessel and wife, Edie, of Greer; four grandchildren, Kendall Mauldin, John, Stephen and Nathan Wessel; a sister, Flora Jordan of Columbia; and two brothers, George Wessel of Lexington and Fred Wessel of Greenville. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Annie Mae Glover; and brothers, James, Gene and Robert Wessel. Memorials may be made to Eastlan Baptist Church, 625 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607. Visitation will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Downtown. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the downtown chapel. Burial will be in Live Oaks Memorial Garden, Charleston, with a graveside service on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The family will be at their respective homes.
