I was sad to hear Tom is no longer with us. We had many interesting and unforgettable experiences while serving with the Marines at Quantico. While I was in Vietnam Tom and Sue sent me a box of homemade chocolate chip cookies which I still recall as one of the best treats I ever had. When I lived in New York City and you guys were still in New Jersey, we got together at our apartments and Tom and I went to games, lunches and general rubbernecking around Manhattan. Sadly, I wish we had kept lines of communication open better. He leaves us with a lot of memories.

I was saddened to learn on Tom's passing. I remember many interesting and unforgettable times we had together while serving in the Marines at Quantico. Later, when I lived in New York City and you guys were still in New Jersey, we got together many times at our apartments. Tom and I also went to some basketball games, had lunches in Manhattan and recalled our days in uniform. Sadly, I wish we had kept up better lines of communication. I know he leaves you with a storehouse of pleasant memories.

Dear Sue, We're all feeling incredibly sad and shocked at the sudden loss of your best friend and husband. Kirk and Sara, your dad was the best, always putting family first. As long time neighbors and friends, we will all sadly miss Tom. Our community has endured the loss of a good person and because of him, this town is a great place to live. Our hearts are indeed very heavy with grief for all of you. As you have always been for us, we are here in any way possible for each of you. We love all of you as family. Praying for each of you. ~ Brenda & Kevin

Sue, though we haven't seen each other for many years, you and Tom were always important to me. We had some really good times when stationed at Quantico and I remember those times fondly. My best to you and your family and I wish I could be there May 6 -- I will be in spirit. Take care.

Dear Sue, Kirk and my sweet Sara,
My heart is so heavy as I write this now that the patriarch of our Scratch Pad family is gone. Tom was a wonderful man and a great friend for many years. Even though I have been gone from the store for over 10 years, I still consider all of you as family. We have so many memories together that they are just too numerous to count. I remember Tom telling me one time that I had been around so long that when I first came to work at the store, he had dark hair! We have watched each others children grow to become fine adults that we are all so proud of. I know heaven has a special place for him because he was such a special person. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Just remember, "When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure." Tom Tanis was truly a treasure!
Much love to all,
Kay

Dear Sue, Sara, and Kirk,
Dan and I send our sincerest sympathy to all of you. We loved getting to know Tom and enjoyed his friendly ways. He always made us feel like long-time friends even though we saw each other infrequently. We will always remember his willingness to take us to the cruise ship when we had really not been around him more than once or twice at that point. What a great guy!
We will pray for God's peace for all of you, and we'll be in touch soon.

Love,
Marjorie
