Thomas Stalvey Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Wayne Stalvey MT. PLEASANT - Thomas "Tom" Wayne Stalvey, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, passed away on January 21, 2025. He was born in Georgetown, SC on November 9, 1937 to the late Ernest Clyde Stalvey, Sr. and Vivian Rouse Stalvey. Tom was a graduate of Winyah High School, Georgetown, SC in 1956 and received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University in 1960. After college, Mr. Stalvey was employed by the Navy Department, Bureau of Ships in Washington, D.C. He later transferred to the Reference Standards Laboratory, located in the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He left the lab in 1962 to work with his brother at Stalvey Communications in Georgetown, SC. It was there that he met the love of his life, Rebecca Louise Young. After they were married, he returned to the Navy Department in 1964 and spent the majority of his career as a project engineer and Division Head in Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications design at the Naval Electronic Systems Command supporting Naval Air Stations worldwide. Mr. Stalvey retired from his later position as the Head of the RADIAC & Environmental Systems Division, NISE East (later known as SPAWAR) in 1996 after 32 years of service with the Navy Department. He will always be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who always put the needs of his "girls" before himself. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 46 years, Rebecca Young Stalvey, and his brothers, Ernest Clyde Stalvey, Jr. and Kenneth Dorrance Stalvey. Survivors include his two daughters, Paula Lynn Sitterlee (husband, Julius) of Rural Hall, NC, and Jennifer Leigh Stalvey of Ladson, SC. He also leaves behind three granddaughters, Caitlyn Zenauskas, Madison Sitterlee, and Jessica Zenauskas; one sister, Joanne S. Carter of Columbia, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Stalvey's memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 11:30 AM, in the J. Henry Stuhr Mount Pleasant Chapel, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family will receive friends and family beginning at 10:30 AM at the Chapel prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Grace Baptist Tabernacle, Playground Fund, 124 Five Forks Dr., PMB 197, King, NC 27021.
