Thomas Spring Obituary

SPRING, Thomas Thomas J. Spring, Jr., 82, of Charleston, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Born September 3, 1924 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Spring, Sr. and Janie Duke Spring. Thomas served overseas in the US Army during WWII from 1943 1946 in the 172 Engineer Division and received 2 Bronze Stars and the Medal of Honor. After WWII, he began working in the civil service with the United States Navy where he was a transportation officer and the Director of Personal Property Division, During his civil service career he received 15 Superior Awards and numerous other awards. He is survived by his sister, Eula Spring Whetsell and her husband Rufus of Charleston and extensive family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at McAlister-Smith Downtown Chapel, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Sunday, March 11th in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery, Charleston.
