Trying to put some past relatives into perspective, I came across Grange's passing on 12/14/2019, the same day, my dear husband James of nearly 52 left this earth. Janice & Grange were at our wedding, his uncle, Frank Holmes, was his step-father. Frank's sister was his father's wife and Aunt Mildred lived with them in a separate apt. on Bennett St when James and I stopped by on our honeymoon trip to FL. The last Xmas card we received from Janice and Grange was 1996! I remember him as a very witty, inquisitive man on the few times we spent together at family gatherings. May both my James and he rest in peace.

So sorry to be late with this. Grange was a kind and generous neighbor, and of course I was very fond of his parents, Helen and Grange, when I was growing up in the "Old Village." "Mrs. Simons house" was always a destination for me; and if I overstayed my welcome she would tell me, gently, that it was time to go home. Later, in my adult life, I became better acquainted with Grange when he moved back into the old house on Bennett Street. My daughter's wedding was held outdoors on the wonderful site overlooking the harbor that Grange had built, literally, by hand. A wonderful man. What warm memories!

Dear Janice Ann, Tip and Rovie,
So many treasured memories-too numerous to mention-all beginning in the early 1950's which became a close relationship over all these many years. What a void Grange's passing leaves. Your Dad was a wonderful man always caring and thinking of others before himself setting a fine example to be admired. We share in your grief but will smile when we reminisce.
With our love to you and your extended family,
Dana & Gretchen

Sent Flowers

Water's Edge

December 18, 2019

The owners, management, and staff at Water's Edge send our deepest condolences to the family of Grange Simons. Grange was a familiar face at Water's Edge, and while the whole staff doted on him, Andrea was his favorite, and the feeling was very much mutual.
Grange seemed to compress three lifetimes into his 88 years, and his story is an impressive one.
To borrow the words of another historian, curious adventurer, world traveler, and general bada**, Theodore Roosevelt, "Absence and death are the same--only that in death there is no suffering."
We already sense his absence, but we will always be grateful for his longtime friendship, and we will miss him dearly.

Here's to you

What a great wonderful intelligent and fun man! Grange was my mother's first cousin. She [Sallie Simons] adored him and they had lots of fun together. His laugh was infectious. He enjoyed life and people in his life, and was truly interested in the person he was speaking with at any time. He always brought champagne to the family reunions at Pompion Hill and gave the first glass to my mother.

Attended several get togethers with Grange and Janice @ their Old Village home. Remember fondly the 2000 New Years get together and the Y2K coffee cups they gave as gifts to their guests. Still have and use today. Terrific individual, friend and confidant. One of a kind!!!

Such fond memories of Fourth of July celebrations at cousin Helen and Grangie's home. I recall running around with sparklers outside their home amongst the adults and sipping ginger ale. And at the semi annual family picnics, he always brought champagne, no matter what the weather and temperature.

I remember Grange conducting a whirlwind tour of Charleston for my then new husband and me in 1996. It was about 100 out and Grange was in a terry cloth shirt and jeans. The man didn't sweat and the a/c in his car was broken. He picked us up after we toured Ft. Sumter and took us to the plantation that doubled as the entryway for Tara in Gone With the Wind. He followed that with a wonderful dinner with him and his lovely with at Poogan's Porch in Charleston. It was a lovely day, hosted by a dear man. I worked with Rovie and Vicki for years at EPA, and offer my sincerest condolences to the entire family.
