Tommy was born in Charleston, SC, on January 13, 1949, the youngest of seven children born to Anne Fortune Scaffe. He graduated from Bishop England High School in 1967 and served his country in Vietnam shortly thereafter. Upon discharge from the Army, he entered The Citadel as a veteran student and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Tommy and Teresa were married on June 16, 1973, and enjoyed 44 years of marriage. He will be remembered fondly by all those he worked with at the Charleston Air Force Base in Federal Civilian Service with the 628th Medical Group for 21 years. The family would like to send a very special thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Charleston Veteran's Administration Hospital who gave him such amazing care for many years. Tommy is survived by his wife, Teresa; two children, Toby Scaffe (Anna) and Kristen Parris (Gregory); and his four grandchildren: Banks, Mary Kirk, Ellie and Avery. He will be sorely missed and always remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to The Fisher House Charleston, in association with the VA Medical Center (fisherhouse.org). Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER, Inc. Dear Teresa and family,
It's been a very long time since we have seen each other, Teresa. Linda Jensen here
Thinking of you and Tommy and your family. Although we were all in BE together, I did not get to know Tommy well. I did suspect he had a good sense of humor though and seems this is reflected in some notes to you. But, I do know you and your Sassy Sister, Sissy from X-ray work.
You have always impressed me for your sweet demeanor, kindness and even your quick ability to smile and laugh. Not loudly but in a non attention way. And with this thought, I can see just how caring and devoted you were to your husband, Tommy.
He found you to be the light and love of his life and I am sure you held him in that esteem .
So, trust now that indeed Tommy is with the Lord and give thanks that you were both in each other's lives for better or worse , in sickness and in health. God bless you and your family. Praying for you.., Linda Grisillo Jensen

Big Tom was an amazing man and an inspiration in my husband and I's life. He loved his family so much especially his wife, children, and grandchildren. He always made people feel special. He was so intelligent, funny, caring, loving, and always on time with his jokes. No matter how bad he was suffering from his health issues, he always wanted to know what we have been doing. He was a selfless man. We feel honored to have known him all these years and been a part of his "family". God bless us with a friend, a mentor, and family. Big Tom, we will miss you more than you could ever imagine. I know you are smiling down from heaven out of pain. Thank you for all you have accomplished here on earth and for touching our lives and the lives of of so many. We love you so much! RIP BT

Teresa,Toby, Kristen, Anna, Greg and family,
My children join me in expressing our sincere condolences. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
May I share something that my mom said to me after my dad's death..." those we truly love never leave us, death and time (will) never rob us of this." Tommy's love will live within you all always.
With love,
Ingrid
