Thomas Koontz Obituary

Thomas Koontz MT. PLEASANT - Thomas C. Koontz, aged 79, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, left this earth on Tuesday, October 17. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 21 at St. James-Santee Episcopal Church in McClellanville, SC. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 1885 Rifle Range Road, Suite 46, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 or to St. James-Santee Episcopal Church, PO Box 123, McClellanville, SC 29458. Tom was born in Thomasville, N.C. on October 9, 1944, the only child of Ottis C. Koontz and Frances H. Koontz. He attended the University of North Carolina, served in the United States Air Force, and then finished his degree at the Citadel in Charleston, SC. Tom's working life involved banking, real estate development, and small business development. He loved learning new things and had a life-long interest in quantum mechanics and astrophysics. He was a sports enthusiast, playing in his younger years and watching in his latter. He was rooting for his beloved Tar Heels and Atlanta Braves right up to the time of his death. Tom is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Carol, and his son, Jeffrey. In addition, he leaves behind cousins, an aunt, nieces and nephews, friends, and his Australian family. The family would like to thank the staff of Lutheran Hospice, who provided exceptional care for Tom and gave loving support to Carol and Jeffrey. Funeral arrangements are by Charleston Cremation Center, Daniel Island, SC.
