Thelma Shurlknight Obituary

Thelma G. Shurlknight MACEDONIA, SC - Thelma Gatlin Shurlknight, 88, of Macedonia, SC, died Thursday morning in a St. Stephen nursing home. Her funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday morning, June 27, 2015, in the Hood's Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM this Friday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hood's Chapel Roof Fund, 2451 Highway 17-A North, Bonneau, SC 29431. Mrs. Shurlknight was born January 30, 1927, in Macedonia, SC, a daughter of Greeley Gatlin and Mable Barnes Gatlin. She was a member of Hood's Chapel United Methodist Church, and a former member of Farm Bureau. Throughout the years, Mrs. Shurlknight had several occupations such as, a mail clerk at the Alvin Post Office, a census taker for Berkeley County, and delivering the Sunday newspaper. She enjoyed crocheting and painting, but most of all she loved participating in contests and playing sweepstakes. Her favorite saying was, "come to granny so daddy doesn't spank you". Mrs. Shurlknight was preceded in death by a grandson, John B. Cowart, III, and most recently by her and Mr. Shurlknight's favorite pet, "Baby Bear". She was the widow of Burley J. Shurlknight. Surviving are, two daughters, Avis S. Cowart and Vaiter S. Litchfield and her husband, Pete, all of Macedonia; three sons, Scott Shurlknight and his wife, Tonya, and Erick Shurlknight all of Macedonia, and Arnold Shurlknight of The Villages, FL; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Phillips of Beaver Dam, and Geraldine Gatlin of N.
