Thelma Johnson Dingle MT. PLEASANT - The relatives and friends of Mrs. Thelma Johnson Dingle are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Services, Thursday, April 6, 2025, at 10:30 AM in Calvary Episcopal Church, 107 Line Street, Charleston, SC, 29403. Inhumation will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. A public viewing will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Murray's Mortuary North Charleston Chapel, 4060 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. Mrs. Thelma Dingle was born on May 6, 1928, in Charleston, SC. She was the oldest child of the late Peter Johnson, Sr. and Henrietta Freeman Johnson. Preceding her in death were her brothers Peter Johnson Jr. and Willie Johnson. On Friday, March 28, 2025, she entered eternal rest. Thelma received her early education in Charleston County Schools. After graduating from Burke High School, she received bachelor's and a graduate degree from South Carolina State College. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined St. Luke AME Church. In 1951, she became a member of Calvary Episcopal Church where she was an active member of the Episcopal Church Women's organization and the altar guild. On May 8, 1952, Thelma was united in marriage to Charles Edward Dingle. To this happy union two daughters, Jewell and Tanya, were born. With a strong belief in the value of community service, Thelma gave untiringly of herself to help others. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Herbert U. Mack Post 241, she led the Remley's Point Community youth group, was a member of the Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and a member of the Poinsettia Chapter #129, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA. Left to cherish the wonderful memories of her life are her loving daughters Jewell Dingle of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Tanya Dingle of Stone Mountain, GA; special daughter, Ida Myers of Goose Creek, SC; a special granddaughter, Tedra Coakley of Greenville, SC; God Daughter, Tiffany Franks; loyal friend Gwen Manigault and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
