Thelma Creel Obituary

Thelma Zeigler Creel ROUND O, SC - Mrs. Thelma Zeigler Creel, wife of the late Leroy Edward Creel, passed away Saturday evening at her residence. She was 84. Mrs. Creel was born in Colleton County May 14, 1927 a daughter of the late Preston Brooks Zeigler and Eula Byrd Zeigler. She was a homemaker and was an active member of St. Matthews Baptist Church in Grover for over sixty years. She was a former Sunday school teacher, church clerk, acteens leader, and was active in the WMU. She enjoyed canning, working in her garden, sewing, camping with her late husband in the mountains, and spending time with her family. At the time of her husband's death in 2010, they had been married for 63 years. She is survived by her son Glenn Edward Creel (Joyce) of Elgin and by her daughter Yvonne "Vonnie" Creel Wagers (Danny) of Round O. There is one sister Ermine Jackson, one brother Joseph D. Zeigler, and five grandchildren: John Edward Wagers (Celena), Carla Wagers Hartline (Paul), Dwayne Creel (Celeste), Sharon Wagers Broadus (Thomas), and Glenda Creel Carnes (Justin). Mrs. Creel also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Deborah Creel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at St. Matthews Baptist Church with burial following in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to either St. Matthews Baptist Church, 2593 Wire Road, St. George, SC 29477 or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 134 Bells Hwy., Walterboro, SC 29477.
