Ted Gianaris Obituary

GIANARIS, Ted Ted Nicholas Gianaris passed from his earthly body early on the morning of December 11, 2006, two days before his 75thbirthday. Ted was born the youngest of three sons to Nicholas and Angelica Gianaris in Charleston, SC on December 13, 1931. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Nicholas Gianaris are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Trinity, Saturday December 16, 2006 at eleven o'clock. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Friday between five and seven o'clock, with a Trisagion Service at seven o'clock. Ted is survived by Joyce his beloved wife of 54 years, three devoted children: Kathy, Sylvia and Ted, Jr.; their spouses Rich, Robert and Jennifer; 11 loving grandchildren: Amy, Zac, Nic, Annie, Ellyn, Aaron, Jake, Elliott, Sophie, Auggie and Abe; and numerous friends, relatives, colleagues and former customers. Ted played football and ran track for The High School of Charleston. He served his country as a United States Navy corpsman during the Korean War and graduated from the Medical University of Charleston with a degree in Pharmacy in June 1958. Ted practiced pharmacy for over 40 years as owner of Palmetto Rexall Drugs and the Medicine Shoppe. He was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Trinity for over 50 years and a member and past President of AHEPA Plato Chapter # 4. Ted and Joyce moved to Glen Carbon, Illinois to be close to Ted, Jr. in January 2002. In addition to his family and friends, Ted loved a dry martini with three olives, fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals and Tiger Woods. Ted's favorite sayings included hang loose and I'm as busy as a one-armed paper hanger. He was a loving, giving and irreverent man who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Not only was Ted a classmate at Charleston High School, he was also my Mother's Pharmacist for a number of years. Except for a few visits to the drug store to pick up her meds, my only contact with him since high school was our 50th Class reunion. I remember with well as always being good-natured, always friendly and full of life.
May his soul rest in peace and my deepest condolences to his family.
