Talley Culclasure Obituary

Talley Felder Culclasure, Jr. MACON, GA - Talley Felder Culclasure, Jr., age 56, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, true friend and passionate doctor. Talley was born in Orangeburg, SC, of the late Talley Felder Culclasure, Sr. and Frances Raysor Weeks Culclasure of Columbia, SC. Talley is survived by his wife of 30 years, Teresa Martin Culclasure; their three children: Alexa Christine Culclasure of Westmont, IL, Emmie Rebecca Culclasure of Macon, GA, and Jacob Talley Culclasure of Macon, GA; his brothers: John Weeks Culclasure, Sr. (James) and Harry Raysor Culclasure (Margaret); brother-in-law: Greg L Martin (Heidi); uncle and aunts: James Wise Culclasure and Nancy Riley Culclasure and aunt, Susan Culclasure Parker; nieces and nephews: John Weeks Culclasure, Jr. (Sarah), Robert Douglas Culclasure, Elizabeth Frances (Libby) Culclasure DeBell (Denny); Kathleen Amanda Culclasure; Rachel Frances Culclasure; and great-nephew Graham DeBell and many cherished cousins. A true South Carolinian, Talley was raised in St. Matthews, SC, and attended The Citadel Military College in Charleston, SC. Given his love for Charleston, biology and medicine, he then attended the Medical University of South Carolina. While at The Citadel, Talley met Teresa Martin. They fell in love and were married at The Citadel in the Summerall Chapel on May 28, 1988, following his medical school graduation. Talley did his internship and residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO. While in Colorado, Talley and Teresa began their family with Alexa and then Emmie being born. Talley finished his time in the Army at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA, and to their delight, their son, Jacob was born while living there. After his successful Army career, Talley and family moved to Macon, GA, in May, 1999 where they still reside. Dr. Culclasure was a specialist in cardiology and interventional cardiology and he founded the Middle Georgia Heart and Vascular Center in Macon, GA, with offices in Warner Robins, Eastman, Thomaston and Dublin, GA. During his medical career, Dr. Culclasure has held the positions of Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO, and Chief of Cardiology and Directorate of Medicine at Dwight D Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA. He also holds the following professional appointments of Associate Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, GA, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Other professional associations include Fellow of the American College of Physicians and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Talley has contributed to the medical community in Macon and surrounding areas by serving in multiple capacities; however, he will be remembered most for his devotion and sharing of his time with his patients all over Middle Georgia. He was never too busy to listen to a story or learn of a beloved hobby of his patients. Often Talley enjoyed their story or caught their passion around a hobby and he, too, took up that interest. Some of these include gardening, bee keeping, raising homing pigeons, barbeque judging, auctioning goats and sheep, and raising chickens. Talley had a love for all things outdoors and he formed close relationships with his patients over their shared passions. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Trotters at Idle Hour Country Club, 251 Idle Hour Drive, Macon, Georgia 31210. The Memorial service will be held at the Summerall Chapel at The Citadel Military College, Charleston, SC, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday April 5, and will be followed by inurnment at Memorial Bell Tower Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Citadel Brigadier Foundation Scholarship Fund, the Melanoma Research Foundation, specifying Mucosal Melanoma, National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, or charity of donor's choice. Dr Culclasure always had a calming effect on me before and after mitral heart surgery with Dr Edward Chen. He was highly recommended by Emory having worked there with my surgeon. He was sincerely happy for my love for traveling. He always said no need to worry about anything. Having come home from another trip I was really sad today to hear of his passing when they rescheduled my appointment. Please know my prayers are for all his family and friends as we feel this great loss. Having loved more then we grieve more. May God heal all our hearts knowing that each of us has a purpose and Talley's hands and heart were a gift from God and that Talley faithfully fulfilled his purpose. I can hear him saying to us all...do not worry.

How can I ever say goodbye to a man that I trusted and how he cared for me as my cardiologist since 2001. I know he saved my life three times over those years. We had a good relationship and always had a laugh when we met. My wife also trusted Talley. God bless you Talley and your family.

Sleep well, my friend. Rides back and forth to school were never more interesting, nor funny. I remember the convertible and the laughter. And I remember enjoying Camp Indian Land as kids. Your smile, sense of humor, and curiosity are unsurpassed.

Dr. Culclasure was such a GREAT cardiologist. He inserted a pacemaker for my 90 year old mother, everyone called her "Smitha." During the procedure she shared with him what the Operating Room was like in the early 1900s as she had graduated from Piedmont and nursed here quite a few years before her death @ 93 years old. He came out of the OR laughing and put his arm around me and told me that she was doing "FANTASTIC" and had told some good stories about how the OR used to be. He was more than kind to us and eased my mind about her undergoing the pacemaker. She did great and we loved him for his caring concern and excellent skills. He will be missed! My prayers for his wife and children and family, such a loss!

I was truly sadden to hear of Dr. Culclasure's passing. He was my doctor and he was the sweetest, kindest most patient man I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He treated me as if I were the only patient he had and yet he would have a waiting room full of people waiting just like me to get in to see him. He truly was one of the best and I don't think there will ever be another like him. He will be greatly miss by so many. With our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends who knew him so well.

So sorry to be just now learning about Dr. Culclasure's untimely passing. I have been a patient for years and like all others, I knew him to be a very kind, compassionate physician, who was never too busy to listen to even idle chatter. He seemed to remember from year to year, little gifts brought, especially tomatoes from South Carolina roadside stands. My deepest condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

To entire Culclasure Family.... May God strengthen and comfort each of you in the way you need. You each (and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him) had an relationship with him that was unique because that is the way he made you feel. He was sincere and cared about his family, patients and employees. He stated many times " I just want to take care of my patients, you guys take care of everything else"....my heart is broken as is yours but focus on cherished memories that will ALWAYS be in your heart. I will miss you Dr. C.

To the family of Dr.Culclasure, please accept my sincerest sympathy in the loss of your loved one. He did a heart cath recently on my brother and I got to witness his bedside manner personally. He indeed had a calming effect on his patients. I only met him this one time (although I have passed him numerous times in the hospital hallway for many years) but it was enough to make quite an impression on me. Wish more physician's could be as caring as this man for his patients.
