I knew Ashton as a man of immense generosity with an ardent love of family and friends. It was a priviledge to have shared time with Ashton and to have known him. We will honor his passing by remembering those many wonderful times together and his generous spirit of giving. Our prayers, thoughts and hopes extend now to the family.

To the Family: Thank you for the time your dad gave to the community. He was a great "behind the scenes" mover and shaker. He supported too many worthwhile causes but made SC a better place for all of us.

I'll always remember his laughter which he always carried with him when he helped Col. Gene Foxworth during the Col's final weeks.

Ms. Lavonne and kids:

Please accept my deepest sympathies. If there is anything I can do to help, just give me a call. Mr. Phillips always called me "Di" - He was always so complimentary and if he would see my suntan now, he would say, "Di, you really need to stay out of that sun!" He never complained during his sickness. All of the family deserves a medal for the way you took care of Dad around the clock. He's with God now - no more sickness - no more pain. I hope I can go meet him one day myself.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Your husband and your father was a wonderful man. I have always referred to him as a truly southern gentleman. My life was touched by his warm smile and caring ways. I am honored to have known him and and the entire family. Please know that I am thinking of you.

To the entire Phillips family:

Please accept my sincere sympathy. I will always cherish the memories of the times I was fortunate enough to spend with Mr. Phillips. His love of sports was always contagious. But not as much as his love of family and friends. He never failed to first ask me how my family was doing. Mr. Phillips is a true Gentleman. He will be missed by many. May God Bless you and give you strength through this difficult time.

I will always remember Mr. Phillips' (although every time I said that he would correct me by saying "Ashton, Bob") wit, warmth and humanity. He never failed to produce a chuckle and a smile from me and his knowledge of Lynchburg barbeque, coconut cake, and Clemson football was nothing short of encylopedic. He was instrumental in helping me start my legal career in Charleston and if for nothing more than that(and there is a great deal more)I owe him a great debt of gratitude. I will never forget him. His family are in my prayers and thoughts.

Our hearts are heavy with sorrow in the loss of such a wonderful man. No matter how sick Mr. Phillips felt when he came into the office, he ALWAYS had a smile, a positive comment, and an interest in knowing how each person was doing. All of these attributes in addition to his giving way said mountains about his character and positive view on life. He was a member of our family and we will never forget his smile and love he showed to all of us. He is at peace now and we know he is with God looking down, helping us cope with other patients who need us. His memory will always be in our hearts for he touched each of us in his journey. Love and peace to the loved ones he has left behind, may they be at rest knowing he is in a better place with no pain. Our hearts go out to his wife who was always by his side.
