Sydney Campbell Obituary

Sydney Capers Campbell CHARLOTTE, NC - Sydney Capers Campbell, 77, died October 19, 2021 at The Pavilion Healthcare Center at Brightmore in Charlotte, NC. Sydney was born in Camden, SC on January 24, 1944, the daughter of Horace Campbell and Gertrude Zemp Campbell. She attended elementary and high school in Camden, received a BS degree from Presbyterian College, Clinton, SC, and a Masters of Education from The Citadel, Charleston, SC. As an adult, she resided in Charleston and taught until her retirement in the city elementary school system. Sydney is survived by her brother, William Simeon Campbell (Beth) of Matthews, NC and nephew, Christopher Zemp Campbell (Katie) of Asheville, NC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by nephew, William Charles Campbell (Michele) of Charlotte, NC. Sydney always enjoyed boating, shrimping, golfing, and tennis with family and friends in Charleston. An annual oyster roast in her back yard with family, friends, and neighbors was an anticipated event she coordinated with fanfare and precision. The family would like to thank the loving caregivers at Legacy Heights of Ballantyne - Memory Care Unit, The Pavilion Healthcare Center at Brightmore - Hall 100, and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local Alzheimer's Association and/or a hospice and palliative care organization of your choice. Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the Campbell family by visiting www.kornegayfuneral.com. I loved Sydney! She was there for me more times than I can count. Bill and Beth, thanks for looking out for her. She was one of a kind.

I worked with Sydney for years in education. Not only was she hilarious, but she was a wonderful educator and a simply beautiful lady. I watched her learn to embrace her diagnosis and travel to Africa...as she had longed to do. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. May the peace of God that passes all understanding be with you today and always.

Sydney was a glass half full kind of person. Always positive, fun-loving, generous to a fault, ready to help with anything. She loved traveling down Lowcountry creeks to unknown destinations, the adventure thrilled her. Family was her bedrock, she loved all of you so deeply. Syd, blaze a trail up there. We know you will. Love from us.
