Susanne Banks Obituary

Susanne Elizabeth O'Fairo Banks JOHNS ISLAND - Susanne Elizabeth O'Fairo Banks, 81, of Johns Island, South Carolina, entered into heavenly rest on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. She leaves her loving husband, David, along with son, Andrew; daughter, Stacey; and her precious grandchildren, Chloe, Bailey, and David. Susanne was born July 8, 1944 in Tecumaseh, Michigan. Graduate from Clinton High School. Later earning her B.S. from Michigan State at MS, she joined AOTT which she was still an active member. She started her teaching career in Great Lakes, Illinois, after then moving to teach in Atlanta, GA. From there, she joined the Red Cross which took her to Korea. She spent many years with the second division, rising to become the second director. After that, she came back to the Atlanta Red Cross. She was recommended to be the Director of Blood Services in Charleston, SC. After accepting, she started a new career. Then MUSC needed a volunteer director, another move. After retiring from MUSC for 16 years, never one to sit idle, she started volunteering with Spoleto, Dock Street Theatre, substitute teaching, church, airport, and the pilot club. Her greatest joy, beside her family, was spending time at her home in Lake Lure, NC. Traveling throughout London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Alaska, Russia, Dominican Republic, and many others too numerous to count. She will be missed by the many new friends she met. Never a stranger to her, she would always start a conversation with the people she met. Her beautiful smile and personality brought her friends throughout. She especially enjoyed meeting people at the airport as they came and left. Susanne and David married late but the 43 years spent together was too short, but her memory will always be cherished. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 20, 2025 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 in Pinecrest Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Memorial donations can be made in Susanne's memory to Pinecrest Baptist Church. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Earlier today

I knew Susanne when I worked at MUSC Hospital Administration and she was Volunteer Director. She was fun and funny and a great lady. She will be missed.
