Susan Edmonds Obituary

Susan Wamer Edmonds CHARLESTON - Susan Wamer Edmonds, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Charles T. Edmonds, Jr., entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 6, 2023. Her Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Bethel United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Susan was born July 2, 1944 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, daughter of the late Thomas Appleby Wamer and Nettie Whetsell. She grew up in St. George, South Carolina surrounded by many dear family and friends. Susan attended Columbia College, where she was a Byrnes Scholar, and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She found her true calling in the classroom and taught primarily first grade for over thirty years in Charleston, SC at Oakland Elementary School. During her long career, Susan formed loving bonds with her many students and fellow teachers that have and will continue to endure because of her positive influence. She also loved and was an active member of her church, Bethel United Methodist, and her neighborhood community. In addition to her husband of fifty-six years, Susan is survived by her daughters, Amy Mathisen (Trey) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Laura Edmonds of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Caroline and Thomas Mathisen; sister, Ann Hutto (the late Mike) of St. George, SC; and many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews. The sincerest thank you to her dedicated caregivers at Harmony at West Ashley and Crescent Hospice who filled her final months with respect and love. Words cannot adequately express her family's appreciation for you and your care. Memorial donations can be made in Susan's memory to the James F. Byrnes Foundation or to Bethel United Methodist Church. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
