Sue Almeida Obituary

Sue Sanders Almeida CHARLESTON - Sue Sanders Almeida died peacefully July 7, 2021, at the age of 93, under the care of Hospice of Charleston. Born October 8, 1927, in Piedmont, SC, she was the daughter of the late George Furman Sanders and Jamie Lindsey Sanders. She was married to the late Ernest Milton Almeida, Jr. She was the beloved mother to three sons. Sue was a lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Blocker, Lietch, Weathers Circle of the United Methodist Women Society, and the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class. Sue was a homemaker, however, after her children were grown, she became secretary of Albemarle Elementary School until her retirement. Sue had many interests and talents. She appreciated sports and was a dedicated Braves fan. Sue was an avid reader and had a special love for the written word which she passed on to her children. Sue was an accomplished seamstress, but she was most proud of the numerous pieces she sewed, embroidered, and smocked for her granddaughters; those beautiful heirlooms have been passed down to her great-granddaughter. Sue was an avid gardner. She was also a painter; she used oils, watercolors, and acrylics to paint nature. Not only was Sue a skilled cook, baker and cake decorator, she also created ornate panorama sugar eggs; a few have been collected and preserved. Thank you Sue / Mother / Grandmother for the everlasting memories you created for your family and friends throughout your life. You were the ultimate hostess who lovingly opened your home of 70 plus years to us for a multitude of occasions. We appreciate the painstaking detail you gave to every occasion, including the floral arrangements you created from your yard. Sue was predeceased by sisters, Mary Sanders Harmon and Rachel Sanders Boyd; brother, James David Sanders; a special niece, Gwendolyn Ann Richberg; and her dearest friend, Paula Puckhaber. Surviving Sue are her three sons, Ernest Milton Almeida, III (Margaret) Richmond Hill, GA; Anthony Gary Almeida (Gina) Charleston, SC; & Jamie David Almeida, Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Caroline Almeida Couture (Alex) Kennewick, WA; Amanda Nicole Almeida, Atlanta, GA; & Eddie Lopez (Sanita) Charleston, SC; great-grandchildren, Abigail Couture, Elias Couture & Anthony Lopez; sister-in-law, Nancy Sanders. A private interment service will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens officated by Pastor James David Sanders, Jr. In lieu of flowers, family suggests remembrances be made to John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Hwy., Charleston, SC 29407 or Hospice of Charleston, SC, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

"Jamie", Tony & family,
i just wanted yall to know that I truly loved your mom and we had a special bond. She and I had many great, long, conversations and I became very fond of her. She accepted me with open arms and we became very close. She always made sure I was ok, & vice versa. She lived a long life, had many friends that thought the world of her. She loved each of you and the grands & great grands, and even gave special attention to my granddaughters.
She was a special lady and will be greatly missed. She is with our Lord and Savior and reunited with her family in heaven. Peace and comfort to all of you, is what I hope you will find in the days ahead.
Love you all,
Linda
