Steven Justice Obituary

Steven Pratt Justice

On Monday October 21, 2013 the sun set on the life of Steven Pratt Justice who died peacefully after 42 years of struggling with TD1 juvenile diabetes.

He was born March 6, 1957 in Detroit, MI to Jean Pratt Justice and C. Mitchell Justice. He was raised in Newark, DE where he was an avid sportsman from Little League baseball and football to football at Sanford and Newark High Schools. He continued to play football for Gettysburg College where he graduated in 1979 among his new life brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

His career escalated quickly, and in 1984 he became the youngest Director of Insurance for AAA. In 1995 he received a New Product Award from The International Hall of Fame for his invention of The Grip Remote Control Holder sold on QVC.

In 2005 Steve became a member of the Pilgrim Baptist Church where Rev. Dr. Lonnie Rector, and Steve's best friend Arnie Saunders taught him to know and love his Savior Jesus Christ.

Steve's humor, kindness, intelligence and hope will be dearly missed by his survivors, sister Joan Justice Madden of Newark, DE, brother David Mitchell Justice of Philadelphia, PA, and his nieces Margo Jean Madden of Providence, RI, and Katherine Lee Madden of Wilmington, DE, and his many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 24th at 7:30pm at The Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1325 Barksdale Road Newark, DE 19711. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. To send an online condolence please visit:

Steve was (and is) my fraternity brother from Gettysburg. I will miss our phone calls as he was always an inspiration even having to deal with a pretty tough "deck of cards". I won't forget his love for the Philadelphia "Iggles" and his dislike for the NY Gigantes and even less for the Dallas Cowboys. My friend is now healed. Be blessed brother.

I dated Stevie at Gettysburg College back in 1976. He played football and I was the cheerleader. We had some great times together and I have some wonderful memories of sweet, gentle, and adorable Stevie Justice. At least he is free!

Heaven has a new angel singing in the choir. On one of my last visits with Steve we all (Joan included) sang "Onward Christian Soldiers" together as singing in the church choir was one of his joys in life. His sharp wit, sense of humor and high spirits will be greatly missed. You could not find a sweeter friend or brother than Steve. I miss you Buddy!
