Steve McGuinn Obituary

Steve McGuinn SUMMERVILLE - Steve Allan McGuinn of Summerville, SC, formerly of Loganville, GA, died March 24, 2012 at the age of 58. He was born October 10, 1953 in Atlanta, GA to Claude Baskin and Wanda Carraway McGuinn, the middle son among 7 children. He is survived by his mother, Wanda and four of his brothers: Claude B. Jr. "Mac", Leslie, Chris and Jeff and one sister Melinda. He was the proud father of four daughters, Maggie McGuinn Gilpin (Jared) of Summerville, Michelle McGuinn Buchanan (Jamie) of Gainesville, GA, Elizabeth McGuinn Polston (Cliff) of Summerville and Eileen McGuinn of Kaneohe, HI. His five grandchildren brought him unending joy: Emily, Samuel, Sarah, Rachel and Andrew. He has many nieces and nephews, many of whom he viewed as his own children, and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude B. McGuinn and brother Curtis McGuinn. Steve was a faithful Christian man, being baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1971 at the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium; loyally serving the congregation in a variety of capacities over the past 40 years. His faith and endurance through trials were worthy of imitation, and a constant source of encouragement for his daughters and grandchildren. Steve was a mild and calm spirit, enjoying nature and all that creation had to offer. You could often find him tending his garden, bird-watching, fishing, reading his Bible or going on "walk-about." He also thoroughly enjoyed cooking for his family and they loved to eat his food! He had a love of lighthouses and never tired of walking up all those stairs to tour one! Steve was a history buff, particularly enjoying Irish heritage. He was often found listening to classical music or Irish folk music, which perhaps fostered his artistic abilities. He wrote short stories and poetry, as well as drew sketches. Steve loved the ocean, so a perfect day for him would have been a day at the beach on Sullivan's Island with his family. Steve was employed at Nucor Steel Berkeley in Huger, working in the scale room. While he enjoyed his job, Steve's focus was on serving God and being a devoted father to his girls, and in time a devoted Granddaddy. Always wearing his signature hat, he will be greatly missed by all those who respected and loved him, especially his daughters. He had a knack for making each of his daughters feel as though they were "Daddy's Little Girl." They can imagine him kissing them on the forehead, patting their heads & saying, "It'll be ok kid, it'll be ok." A memorial service will be held Friday evening, March 30, 2012 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 6 o'clock. Friends may call at PARKS FUNERAL HOME Thursday evening from 6 - 8 o'clock. Arrangements by Parks Funeral Home, 130 West 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Visit our guestbook at www.postandcourier.com/ deaths

Hey there SteveO. Nothing new really going on here, was just thinking of you. Denise, Evondra, and Leigh'R got together and took a week trip to London and Paris. That must have been a hoot with those 3! I'll add a picture of them. My garden is growing really fast, and I already have peppers and tomatoes showing!! I know your light is shining down on them; that's why they look 10x better than the rest of my neighbors.

Game - 5-2-12

Hi ya SteveO! Just got back from seeing 2 games in Atlanta; it was great! We sat behind the Braves dugout for the first game. It was a good game, the highest scoring game ever in that stadium, McCann hit a grand slam in the 13th to win it. The 2nd game we sat behind the Phillies dugout (also awesome seats). Game only took about 2 hours. They played as tho the second string was in there. I know you were looking out folr Pop for me, because it was hot for the day game Thurs, but there was a constant cloud cover with a very mild breeze. Thanks for that buddy.

Batter up Buddy! Pop is feeling really great, so I thought it would be good to take him to a game. And of course I right away thought of you. We never did get to meet up at a game with you and your brothers and drink a beer. Braves are playing the Phillies, so it should be a couple of great games. You'll be there too, I know it!

Hey SteveO. Spring fever is definately in the air; makes one wanna play hookie. I can not get over just how badly the Braves are starting out this year. But then the Marlins spent all of that money and they are starting just as poorly. How about that mess that Ozzie Guillen's mouth got him into?
I miss hearing all of the things that the girls have planned for you over your weekend; but I especially miss our versatile conversations. We could so easily go from baseball, to computers, to grandkids, to religion, to politics. All of those topics are best when shared.

Hey Buddy. Well, things have been pretty slow here at work. 3 days til opening day! Tim Hudson tossed two shutout innings in his first spring start, and Freddie Freeman hit his seventh spring homer. Jack Wilson, (played in AL last year) will be backing up Uggla at 2nd this yr. Did you know that Dan Uggla's middle name is Cooley? Isn't that a shame? I can hear you laughing ya know.

To The Family,
Can you see with your mind's eye, Peoples dwelling together? Sorrow has passed. Peace at last! Life without tears or pain. Sing out with joy of heart! You too can have a part. Live for the day when you'll say,

SteveO - I know you would say that you're in a better place; but man, I sure do miss ya. 9 days til opening day. Wonder what you would say about Chipper having surgery on his knee AGAIN.
When a truck driver would disrespect me over the radio, the normally soft spoken southern gentleman would take the CB mike from me, and in a Charlton Heston's Moses worthy voice, chew out the driver. I called it your Big Boy's Voice. Wish I could hear it now.
