Stephen Stanley Sponar MT. PLEASANT - Stephen Stanley Sponar, 95, husband of Barbara Ann Owens Sponar of Mt. Pleasant, SC died Monday, November 23, 2009. The relatives and friends of Stephen Sponar are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 30, 2009 in Christ Our King Catholic Church at eleven o'clock. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens with military honors. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Sponar was born December 4, 1913 in Newark, New Jersey, son of the late Anthony Sponar and Victoria Kunis Sponar. He served in the United States Navy for six years and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a planner/estimator for the government, a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Sponar of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one daughter, Jeanne Gowder of Summerville, SC; two sons, Stephen Sponar of Bellevue, WA and Timothy Sponar of Mt. Pleasant, SC; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Andy Sponar of Virginia and one sister, Clementine Lowell of Wilmington, NC. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Jo Ann Davis and Cheryl J. Montgomery, both of Summerville, SC; his step-son, Ronald Crawford, Jr. of Cross, SC; and six step-grandchildren. Mr. Sponar was preceded in death by his first wife, Violet Craven Sponar.
