Stephen Michael Gazecki N. Charleston - Stephen Michael Gazecki, 26, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018. He was born on May 5, 1992, in Augusta, GA, son of Laura and Michael Gazecki of Mt Pleasant, SC. Stephen was preceded in death by his grandfather, Master Sgt. Hans K. Gazecki. He is survived by his parents; sisters: Anna Leigh Gazecki and Mary Caroline Gazecki; grandparents: Dr. C.J. Edens and Margaret Kehoe Edens of Mt Pleasant, SC and Renate Gazecki of Stuttgart, Germany; aunts and uncles: Cathy E. and William Roberts of Mt Pleasant, SC; Janet E. and Daniel Conover of Easley, SC; Angela Gazecki-Schmidt of Cologne, Germany; Jeffrey and Dora D. Hartsell of Mt Pleasant, SC; cousins: Catherine Roberts Marret (Davis) of Charleston, SC; Sarah Roberts and Will Roberts, both of Mt Pleasant, SC; David Hartsell of Seattle, WA; Lee Hartsell of Raleigh, NC; Callie Hartsell of Mt Pleasant, SC; Richard Schmidt of Berlin, Germany, and Leo Schmidt of Cologne, Germany. Stephen was a 2010 graduate of Bishop England High School and served in the United States Marine Corps from 2010 - 2014. He was stationed in Hawaii. He returned to Charleston and worked for Fed Ex from 2014-2016. Stephen was currently employed by UPS, was a member of the SC National Guard unit HHC 1st Battalion 118th infantry Regiment and was a student at the College of Charleston. Stephen enjoyed U.S. history, collecting military memorabilia, golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and pets. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, 2018, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2018, at Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island, SC 29482, with Burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
