Shirley Watson Obituary

Shirley Watson SPARTANBURG, SC - Mrs. Shirley S. Watson passed away in Spartanburg on May 29, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Toccoa, GA on January 28, 1945 to the late Thomas and Grace Smith. She spent her childhood primarily in Anderson along with her three sisters and brother. A graduate of TL Hannah High School, she earned both a BA and Master's from Winthrop University. In 1968, she married Walter Hunter Watson, Jr. and the couple celebrated their 52nd anniversary before Hunter's passing in January of 2021. Shirley left a career in teaching at Spartanburg Methodist College to open local fabric store, Custom Fabrics Ltd. With the closing of the store, Shirley then took on the role of office manager with Wealth Management Associates until her retirement. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elizabeth and Andrew (April) Watson; and grandchildren, Caroline, Scott, and Hunter, all of whom live in Spartanburg. She leaves brother, Tom (Jody) Smith of Brevard, NC; and sisters, Kate (Ira) Morris of North Wilkesboro, NC and Melissa (Marvin) Wolfe of Reisterstown, MD; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and sister, Becky (Dave) Knapp. At her request, no service will be held, and Shirley will be laid to rest privately with arrangements being handled by Dunbar Funeral Home.
