Shirley McLean Obituary

Shirley McLean (nee Strassheim) JOHNS ISLAND - Shirley McLean (nee Strassheim), 97, passed away peacefully May 20, 2016, in Johns Island, S.C. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Heather McLean Crotts of Johns Island; her grandchildren, Michael McLean Barnett of Asheville, N.C., Lachlan McLean of Seattle, Paul Caleb Deemer IV of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Andrew Scott Deemer of Los Angeles, Aaron Haley Deemer of London, England, and Katherine McLean and Luke McLean of Hillsboro, N.C.; and her great-grandchildren, Haley Barnett, Chase Barnett, Mason Barnett, Nina McLean, Connor McLean, Felix Deemer, Eleanora Deemer and Louisa Deemer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott McLean; her daughter, Laurie McLean Deemer; and her son, Scott McLean Jr. Shirley was born in 1918 in Chicago to Louis Frederick Strassheim and Matilda Salinger Strassheim. She graduated from Principia College and married Scott McLean in 1944. A longtime resident of Merrill, Wis., and Bowling Green, Shirley spent the later years of her life living close to her children in the Carolinas. Shirley loved her family, good food and the Republican party, and she will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The family would like to thank Shirley's numerous caregivers for their kindness and care in her later years.
