Shirley Magnier

Marietta, GA - Shirley Jeanne Magnier born August 8, 1930 in Berlin, Germany passed away onFebruary 12, 2026, after a life rooted in faith, service and a deep love of family.

After growing up in Braintree, Massachusetts, Denver, Colorado and Greenville, Michigan and receiving her education degree at Michigan State University she began her career as an elementary school teacher in Hunterdon, New Jersey. After marrying Michael E. Magnier in 1956 she lived in Worcester, Massachusetts, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Denver, Colorado, Sudbury, Massachusetts and Dunwoody, Georgia.

She finally retired to Seabrook Island, South Carolina where she lived for the past 30+ years. She recently moved to Marietta, Georgia in 2025 to be closer to family.

A devoted educator, Shirley spent her working career shaping young minds with patience and care. Her passion for education never faded- well into her late eighties, she continued to volunteer at Mount Zion elementary school as a reading and math tutor, generously giving her time to help children gain confidence and skills that would serve them for a lifetime.

Shirley was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Johns Island. Her faith guided her daily life, and she was actively involved in the church community attending daily mass, volunteering on numerous committees' into her mid-nineties, and offering a steady presence whenever help was needed.

Family was at the heart of Shirley's life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Elliott, and her husband of 52 years, passing away on the 18th anniversary of his death. She is survived by her sister, Pam (Robert) Johnson, and her 6 children: Nancy Magnier Boxx, Pat (Frank) Corker, Pam Magnier Moon, Joe (Michelle)

Magnier, Beth Magnier McEachern and Mary (Kevin) Smith, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley will be remembered by her family and friends for her kindness, her dedication to education, her love of birds, the beach and water aerobics and the meaningful way she made a difference in the lives of others. Her legacy lives on in the many students she taught, the parish she served and the family she cherished. Donations can be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church towards their Christmas boxes. This was a mission she loved being a part of every year.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held March 21, 2026, at 11 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Johns Island.
